Just picked up my tickets on stubhub. Who else is going? I've never been to Madison for a game before so I'm pumped. Where does everybody go to drink before/after the game? Anything special I should know?

Can't wait to win the Axe back then plan my trip to Indianapolis!

Be prepared for a bad fan experience. I know that not everyone is awful (even in Madison), and you can definitely meet some good fans there, but in my experience (and many others' experience as well) the Wisco fans are generally bad toward visitors. Profanity, overall disdain and smug arrogance with no regard for you or your party.

I can say my trips there have been the worst out of any away games I've attended in terms of how my group was treated (that includes all B1G teams except Rutgers and Maryland).

Have fun, go in looking to have a good time and don't go in maliciously, but don't be surprised if you're not treated all that well, even if you go in with good (or at least, not bad) intentions.

Yep, I understand we will get some heat at the game. The best I can do is be on my best behavior and hope for a good game.

Where does everybody go out before/after the game? Don't know anyone to tailgate with. Is state street the place to be on game days?

If we beat Nebraska, I might be going. How many opportunities have we had to play to get to the Big Ten Championship game AND win back the axe? I don't know if I could pass that up.

I don't doubt what you are saying, but as a Badger fan, I always try and treat visiting fans well when they are in Madison, win or lose. The most crap you are likely to get is at the game itself, but that is usually just in fun. At the bars, I would think people would treat you better. Of course if you are being a cocky jerk, most aren't going to be real nice. As much as I like to hate the Gophers and other teams, I can appreciate anyone who spends the time and money to travel and cheer on their teams. I have traveled to most of the other Big Ten cities for games, and 95% of the time, the visiting fans are friendly. No matter where you go, there are jerks, but ignoring them usually works best. If I see Gopher fans out on state street after the game, I usually thank them for coming, and hope they have a good experience.
As far as bars on State Street, most people try and cram into State Street Brats, it is usually way too crowded. I would recommend the Iris Pub or 608 for a more laid back experience, or Whiskey Jacks for something more upbeat.

Thanks, you're one of the good ones. Like I said, I think there are good fans there. If you were all crappy, or even a plurality of you were out to ruin other people's experiences, it'd be a disaster. But have yet to go to another stadium in the B1G and have fans tell me to **** off as I walk in or have a bottle whipped at me from a 2nd-story deck as I walk to the game. Still, go in with good intentions and it should work out.

I like Madison generally as a city (Memorial grad) - do think State Street is probably the best bet if you're looking to go to a few different places, but agree on the advice to avoid State Street Brats. Overcrowded and frankly, the brats aren't THAT special.

Ian's has decent pizza if you're looking for something quick to quell the drunchies. Also, not really a college-bar atmosphere, but I really like The Old Fashioned on capitol square. Very good food and, unsurprisingly, good old fashioneds.

I wish more Badger fans were like you! But I can tell you, from a visitor's perspective, you are absolutely the exception. I agree with everything Gopher07 said. I've been to Madison many times for games (football, basketball, and hockey), and I have yet to be treated well by Badger fans. We are always friendly and respectful when we travel, but we always end up with rude, obnoxious Badger fans in our face, particularly at the bars. Even ignoring them does not always work with Badger fans. And it's not just Gopher fans that feel this way. We heard very similar stories from TCU fans earlier this year and Husker fans last year (among others).

I am going with my wife and her family who are Badger fans. I actually lost a bet on our game last year and will unfortunately be wearing a Wisconsin shirt....Junk

Can't you just wear a gophers jacket over the wisconsin shirt?

It is a great atmosphere for the home team and fans. It is the worst as far as how visiting fans are treated although you do see more people going out of their way to be nice to visiting fans to compensate. Overall, it is not a good road trip. Have fun though.

Keep your gopher gear too a minimum. ( a hat/stocking cap ) Watch you backside if there is any snow on the ground. Chances are, if snow, you'll get pelted by a snowball by the drunk students. Stay
out of the dive bars on State Street. If you do go, make sure you're with a group. I haven't been in Madison for a few years. When we were there, my son was with. He played football and is 6'4" and 230 pounds. A couple.of times we got hassled and he just stared them down. Most drunk Badger fans are chicken ****s when it comes too actual confrontation. You'll see some funny stuff. Drunk
girls flashing their tits, people walking into parking meters, etc. I hope you're not sitting near the student section. You'll be swallowed up with the f-bomb chants; especially if you're dressed in full
Gopher gear. Last year talking with Nebraska fans at the Commons Hotel, they couldn't believe how bad some of the fans were, especially the students. No doubt, worse fans in college football; and the bad part is, they're proud of it!

I used to attend many hockey and football games in Madison wearing maroon & gold. They are major a-holes. Seems like before the games, everyone is having fun drinking in the bars or tailgating and seems pretty good. We normally chatted with some people and had a little fun. After the game (whether it was a Goldy or Bucky win) they were complete a-holes. I will never visit that dump Camp Randall again after having punks getting in my face, screaming "F you" when I was just trying to walk down Regent St postgame with my wife and mind our own business enjoying the nice weather on that day. (I think it was the 2 pt conversion game with Brew) Pretty much all the hockey games had some dbag come up to us at some point postgame.

I grew up in WI, and f-ing hate the fans in that state.

Sounds like lots of hate. Hopefully I'll come back with a better experience. We always try to be nice with visiting fans, reminisce about past games, talk about other big ten teams we have faced etc. this works well until some of them start acting like a holes. Just have to ignore those ones. I'm sure we'll take some hate, I'm expecting it. Hopefully we can pull out the win so it makes it worth it. I like traveling to other stadiums so it will be awesome to knock this one off my list!

Do not attempt to reminisce about past games. That will not go well.

I'll be there with 3 buddies. Staying at the Dahlmann for $150 on Saturday, nice and cheap. Still need to pull the trigger on tickets.

Grew up in Wisconsin, dislike almost everything there. Will be wearing gophers gear on Saturday and in Sunday to the Packers v Patriots game. Hoping to see a lot of Wisconsin tears that weekend.

We got our tickets off StubHub following the Iowa win. This will be the first time in five visits that I won't be stuck in the upper deck so I'm happy to finally have a better view of the field than the Chicago skyline.

State Street Brats is the "Jump Around" of Madison bars/restaurants - overrated. The more interesting places are closer to the Capitol, and you'll probably be more likely to avoid the boorish crowd. This can also be accomplished on game day by entering the stadium from the east through Camp Randall Park, which is actually a pretty nice little walk until you reach the concrete eyesore that is Camp Randall Stadium. Frat row is right outside the stadium's west side (Gopher sections) so entering from the east will spare you the vile.

Agree Jike. First few times down there we entered through frat row. Major mistake. Last two times down there we went over around Sun Prairie after the game and had a pretty good time. My wife got tired of all the dickheads around the campus scene.

Good idea. Those Michigan State, Nebraska, Michigan etc. fans must be "reminiscing" when they got the treatment they did when they went to Camp Randall? We know, everybody lies about Camp Randall except Badger Fans, but those fans keep talking about blackout periods..

I'll be going. It'll be my first trip to a road Gopher game since the Music City Bowl game of 2005, hoping for a better result. I'm curious if Gopher fans "Jump Around" or not. I often hear stories about opposing fans and even players partaking. As a sports fan I feel like it should be something I take part in, but as a Gopher fan, I feel like I shouldn't. Thoughts?

Only to dodge the bottles..

Never. Never, ever, ever.

1. It's stupid.
2. It's something Sconnie fans think is "tradition," probably because the song dates to the birth of college football (1993).
3. It's stupid.

From my visits, I don't think frat row is right out there, Jike. There are 2 or 3 random frats on the one street to the west, but frat/sorority row is closer to the Capitol.

Worst experience at an away field I've had...a buddy I went with refuses to ever go back. I'm still trying to convince him to go though...

I will have my gopher Hoodie on under my (*barf) badger shirt. Can't have it under the Gopher gear. A bet is a bet and I'm a man of my word.

Ill be out of town that weekend, so I can't. Part of me wants to drive down to Nebraska though for the game this weekend. I just don't know if I can justify a one day trip. May have to wait until I can make a weekend of it. Lincoln is my top choice to be my next away game.

I'll be there with a group of at least 6 as of now. I've been to Madison too many times to count and yes their fans suck, no other way to put it. But I would never consider not going because of that. I can't wait!

GH post of the year material right here....

Anyone have any solid information or tips regarding tailgating in the parking lots? I'll be going with a few friends and we are trying to decide which lot would be best.
