I see the Rose Bowl winner as the National Champion. It's too bad Oregon and Ohio State meet so soon as they are the two best teams in this tournament.
Not sure how it would work logistically, but reseeding in some form should be introduced for future playoffs to avoid this issue.I see the Rose Bowl winner as the National Champion. It's too bad Oregon and Ohio State meet so soon as they are the two best teams in this tournament.
Love a good fresh crab enchilada!!Enchiladas are so good. Extremely underrated.
The thing that could’ve fixed it was the committee not being dumb. Not sure how it would work logistically, but reseeding in some form should be introduced for future playoffs to avoid this issue.
That sounds amazing - a new bucket list item.Love a good fresh crab enchilada!!
My wife's a pretty damn good cook Me not so much. That sounds amazing - a new bucket list item.
Go back in time, assume just bowl games, no playoff sh*t. Ohio State stakes claim to #1 in polls after Rose Bowl. Notre Dame could stake a claim if they win the Sugar Bowl handily. No more games needed. Okay if there is controversy at the end. And no risk of a 3 loss team pretending to be National Champs.
Think pretty much everyone was thinking this would be the title game. That said you can absolutely go back historically and debate the winners with often times the team who win in a bracket style tournament not being the seasons “best” team. Happens in the nfl all the time as wellThe predictions are looking a little shaky guys. If OSU wins out it will be the second time they win the natty when they would have been entirely left out of the bracket under the prior year system, the BCS in 2013 and 4 team field in 2023.
I've been thinking about this recently. As I understand it the English Premier League gives points for wins and ties. Then at the end of the season the team with the most points wins the championship. That kind of makes sense - over the length of the season they demonstrated that they were the best team. There is a certain logic to that IMHO. The whole playoff system tends to downplay the importance of the regular season, but it does produce a ton of income, and is exciting for the fans. IMHO the playoffs are here to stay. Agree that bracket style tournaments tend to favor teams that are hot at the end of the season, which isn't necessarily bad, but it might not be "best" team that wins the season's championship. Yup different methodology to decide your best and the relegation battle keeps things interesting for those at the bottom (as a Wolves fan, going to be a year where we battle to stay up). Soccer then adds cups and European football as well. For whatever reason, we’ve decided in American sports this is how we’ll do it snd how we like it for all sports (see MLS which is basically the only season long soccer league that decides their champion this way), but it’s arguable that the team is the “best” team and will happen more and more as there’s no way they stop at 12 with the excitement the campus games brought and the money involvedI've been thinking about this recently.
