Not sure how it would work logistically, but reseeding in some form should be introduced for future playoffs to avoid this issue.
The thing that could’ve fixed it was the committee not being dumb.

For instance, 10-2 Ohio state should’ve probably been ranked above 11-2 Penn state since Ohio state beat Penn state at their place. The only reason Penn state had fewer losses was because they avoided Oregon. Once they problem was solved they had same number of losses.

It’s interesting they never ranked Indiana ahead of Ohio state but they did for Penn state when it’s essentially the same situation

I like to see entitled fans suffer so anyone but Ohio State. They will have to wait some more until they can buy that championship.

Cam Skattebo Shades Texas: 'Nobody Out There That Can Stop Me' in ASU's CFP Game

Go back in time, assume just bowl games, no playoff sh*t. Ohio State stakes claim to #1 in polls after Rose Bowl. Notre Dame could stake a claim if they win the Sugar Bowl handily. No more games needed. Okay if there is controversy at the end. And no risk of a 3 loss team pretending to be National Champs.

If the Ohio State team that showed up today against Oregon keeps showing up they will win the CFP easily. When that team is on they are unstoppable.

Imagine watching Texas-Arizona State today and wishing they were only playing for a mayo bath or a trophy with a working toaster.

To each their own.

The predictions are looking a little shaky guys. If OSU wins out it will be the second time they win the natty when they would have been entirely left out of the bracket under the prior year system, the BCS in 2013 and 4 team field in 2023.

Think pretty much everyone was thinking this would be the title game. That said you can absolutely go back historically and debate the winners with often times the team who win in a bracket style tournament not being the seasons “best” team. Happens in the nfl all the time as well

I've been thinking about this recently. As I understand it the English Premier League gives points for wins and ties. Then at the end of the season the team with the most points wins the championship. That kind of makes sense - over the length of the season they demonstrated that they were the best team. There is a certain logic to that IMHO. The whole playoff system tends to downplay the importance of the regular season, but it does produce a ton of income, and is exciting for the fans. IMHO the playoffs are here to stay. Agree that bracket style tournaments tend to favor teams that are hot at the end of the season, which isn't necessarily bad, but it might not be "best" team that wins the season's championship. Go Gophers!

Yup different methodology to decide your best and the relegation battle keeps things interesting for those at the bottom (as a Wolves fan, going to be a year where we battle to stay up). Soccer then adds cups and European football as well. For whatever reason, we’ve decided in American sports this is how we’ll do it snd how we like it for all sports (see MLS which is basically the only season long soccer league that decides their champion this way), but it’s arguable that the team is the “best” team and will happen more and more as there’s no way they stop at 12 with the excitement the campus games brought and the money involved

on your comment of the team being hot, also is weird to now say definitively OSU is better than Oregon given they split this year. What if Georgia and Texas meet in the title game and Texas wins? Are they the best team because they beat Georgia now but lost to them 2 times during the season? Unsure if it’s happened in cbb or not but in football it’s real weird with how few games you play with teams from the same conference potentially lining up to decide your champion in more and more ways (and it’s part of why it works in the NFL, nba, nhl is that you avoid this idea of a conference or division even playing each other for the overall title)

Changing to F1 but it doesn’t matter who wins the first lap or couple laps around the track. Finishing the race rewards driving skill, support staff skill, mechanical superiority with a little bit of luck. Finishing at all isn’t guaranteed.

The points systems have some merit but sometimes a season is all but decided or decided with events yet to go.

I guess nothing is perfect. I like a system that rewards depth, and improvement over a season. Drama and high stakes. Football tournaments are pretty close to perfect.
