Who will get better first, Minnesota or Indiana?

I just noticed that the last 3 committments for Indiana last week ( CB, S, MLB) are from the JC ranks ( Coffeyville, College of the Desert, and Glendale AZ) I believe 15-20 kids have left their program. There leading WR was kicked off the team a few weeks ago.
Wilson seems to have the same philosophy as Coach Kill: "My way or the highway" Like Minnesota, it looks like Indiana will sign the max, plus oversign 2-3, and maybe greyshirt. From what I can tell, it looks like the last several recruits for Minnesota will also be from the JC ranks. I expect Minnesota to mirror the same number of recruits as Indiana. The question is, who walks the highway for Minnesota? (Parish, Alipate, etc) Of note, none of the recent JC committments for Indiana showed interest from Minnesota. They also, as far as I can tell, only had an offer from Indiana and have yet to be rated by Scout or Rivals. It will be interesting which full year class for both coaches will contribute the most in the next couple of years and does Minnesota jump above Indiana,or vice-versa. I know many of us hate to think we are at or near the level of Indiana, but for me, that is where we currently stand even though we do have a Big Ten win and Indiana doesn't

I think there are a lot more issues at Indiana than here, so I'll say Minnesota. But neither one is an easy gig.

I agree with all of you, the one thing we do have going for us is that the makings of a decent offense are here, especially on the o-line. If they can patch the D for the next two years until their recruits grow up, I think we advance faster than Indiana.
 


Indiana's in a tough spot. You've got to keep your best in-state kids if at all possible. The Gophers are the only game in town. Indiana's got two other BCS schools in its own state.

Not only that, but other BCS schools like Kentucky, Louisville, and Cincinnati all recruit the state of Indiana very heavily. Moreover, the MAC schools, particularly Ball St. and the directional Michigans, like to come in and pick off the bottom end of the DI-A caliber players. This leaves Indiana in a particularly perilous situation, because they try to go head-to-head with several BCS schools that are better than they (and usually lose), and they don't want to go after perceived MAC-level players because it appears that they are giving up and conceding that they are the bottom-feeder BCS school in the region. They are mired in a "worst of the best, best of the worst" situation from which it is very difficult to extricate oneself.

Plus, the Gophers were once the dominant power in the land, and Indiana has always been terrible.
 

I'm a Wisconsin fan, but there is no question in my mind that Minnesota can get better faster. Poor Indiana gets the players who are left after Notre Dame and Purdue get first dibbs. Also at Indiana, football will always be a poor cousin to basketball.
 

I really enjoy reading the posts here as we are both in similar situations at the moment. I have to say that we have fewer challenges here at the U than down there in indiana, so I will say us. But, Indiana has never really been very good. Lets look at our records side-by-side for the past few years.

Yep, he de-committed. Indiana's still under consideration, but do players ever go back to their original commitment after de-committing? I'm honestly asking, I don't know. But in cases that I know about (i.e. recent ones involving Minnesota guys - Andre McDonald & others) I can't remember one.
 





Minnesota, and I don't think it's even close.

Despite our frustration with the program lately, as of last year, Indiana is much worse. Indiana has only been to 9 bowl games ever. Their overall lifetime winning percentage is .425.

Indiana is a mess football-wise, and I don't see that changing much. They're number three in their own state behind ND and Purdue. We complain about attendance, but every time I turn on a Hoosiers game, that stadium is half empty.

From an athletic standpoint, Indiana is Duke with lower tuition.
 

If you want to compare our situation and Indiana's to building a house. Starting from the hire date, Coach Kill had some materials and an experienced crew, Coach Wilson had a vacant lot, no material, and a new crew. Who do you think will complete the task first?
