Who's going to coach the Gophers to a championship in 2014?
 

Should have just titled it, "Who do you want to be the coach next year?"
 





I want: Shaka or Buzz.

I think it will be: None of the names above, someone off the current radar where we all go "huh?" and then figure out he's got a pretty good track record. But there are still people gnashing teeth and lots of the same old arguments.
 

I would love Smart or Saunders but being realistic tells me it will be someone else.
 

I want Flip or Shaka.

I am afraid it will be some "up and comer" who, if he does do well will bolt for a "better job" ASAP. The rumors about Tubby leaving were really getting old for the first three years.

I think Flip would stay long enough to get us back to the Musselman, Dutcher, Haskins "glory years" and then we could attract a coach who would view Minnesota as a destination as opposed to a lay over or in Tubby's case a bridge to retirement.

Shaka would just be cool.

Yep. These were my thoughts... bet it's a Villa 7 guy who's a bit under the radar. But I guess we'll see!

Consider the source on this one , but Mike Max was on WCCO radio late this afternoon and said Flip is not interested , that he wants to stay in the pro game. Also said Smart is #1 target , but UCLA also wants him.
 

I think Flip is unlikely because it would be hard going from NBA to College,I think. Also, he's sort of getting up there in age to be rebuilding programs. Not to mention he's been out of the College game for a long time.

I take this as a good sign. Why? Because Flip is interested but if he may already know they are going in another direction he would not admit to being interested. It's obvious Flip is interested but guessing the new coach is already a done deal. Shaka?
 



I would be willing to risk another 5 years of mediocrity on Flip as I think he'd do great, but I don't see Norwood risking his career on Flip at 50+.
 

My guess is Shaka is too smart to come here.

I think either Andy Enfield or Josh Pastner will be our next coach. IMO..both would be great gets for us right now...leaning Andy Enfield.

No thanks on Andy Enfield. Hasn't proven enough IMO to be a top-tier coach and we'd be taking a pretty big flier on him.

He has proven more than Shaka Smart did before he took the VCU job. If we can't get Shaka, I'd take Enfield in a second.
 


I bet we hire some middle of the road boring no name coach.....then wish we had Tubby back.

Yeah, Flip was obviously interested. I think the lack of interest is coming from this side.
 

Minnesota should hire Gregg Marshall.

There is the guy I see Minnesota getting.
 

Rumor on the street is it's Mark Montgomery. Head coach of Northern Illinois.

I kid, I kid.
 

I like that Buzz Williams guy...nice hair. But hey, how 'bout Kenny Novak Jr. w/ Sr. as asst.(2-fer) Phil Jackson?...Jackson Browne....Bronson Pinchot...Pierce Brosnan...help me...help me, I'm brain storming w/ my beer...

He'd be a terrific hire. I think most of the names floating around make a lot of sense (Shaka (dream), Anthony Grant (right there with Shaka), Marshall, Williams, Mack)
