who to cheer for--Hawkeyes/Badgers

I have no relatives in Wisconsin. (We are a smart family). I have a brother and sister that live in the Quad Cities/Davenport. (Most of us are smart). Therefore, by default, and to keep peace in the family, I will pull for Iowa. That's the only reason.

Badgers, I hate them, but Badgers because then we don't look as bad. We lost to them, and if the Badgers win, it makes us look slightly better.

Hawkeyes. We still have a chance to have a better record than the Badgers. Our defense let them look much better than they are.

"How many times have you talked to him?"

Zero.

How many times have you asked him for his autograph?

Let's keep it civil GV.

Do you expect to participate on this board (which I have no problem with) and not expect Bielema to take some shots from us? Generally speaking I don't get into the "F Wisconsin or F Iowa" stuff the likes of lunatic-fringers like Bronko (I wrongly predicted a Gopher victory over your Badgers), but nevertheless I don't understand the fascination with visiting other school's chat boards. I have no interest and see no purpose in visiting Buckyville for the primary purpose of needling Badger fans.

I was asking a serious question. I have never met Bielema myself but have read that he is very personable and is great working a room. That is why I asked if you have ever met him. You certainly can take a shot at him and I have no problem with that. I was just curious whether what you were saying was based on personal experience.

I've got to lean towards the pig farmers...a very, very small part of me feels sorry for them just considering how pathetic the state they live in is. That being said, I'm going to buck the trend and root for the giant asteroid over the perennial favorite, Godzilla.

I grew up in SE Minn so I have deep seated hatred for both... but

I will NEVER cheer for the in-bred's in red.

I could never choose between the two. I figure saying I want one of them to win might open a wormhole and the world as we know it would end. It's just not worth the risk.

Hilarious!

I'm in the same situation, except in suckeye land. They think they're the greatest fans in the world and it's sickening. I won't be cheering for becky, but I will be cheering against the suckeyes and hope they lose.

On 2nd thought, I'll go with Rescooter's response. Hopefully Godzilla shows up in the 4th.

I love the Picture! I may frame it and hang it in my office - a classic.

It looks like the unofficial voting is going something like this:

Iowa: 15
Godzilla: 3
Astroid: 1
Nuclear Mishap: 1
Swine Flu Outbreak: 1
Wisconsin: 1

If there are two teams playing that I both dislike I always root for the away team. If the away team wins there are thousands of home team fans going home feeling sad and dejected. That makes me happy.

Best rationale yet! Maximize the misery, I love it!

Fair enough, GV. Now let's get to the best sports season of the year, Big 10 basketball. I think we can both agree that our programs are in great shape with their current coaches.

The only thing I'm cheering for in this game is spontaneous combustion of Camp Randall.

Hawkeyes. We still have a chance to have a better record than the Badgers. Our defense let them look much better than they are.

And people think there is not great entertainment on this board.

Let me translate the above. "Our defense sucks, so they can't be any good either."

Try this one out. Give credit to the other team when they beat you. I know it is tough, but give it a shot.

Here is an example from my post on the UW/OSU game.

Stats in the context of THIS game are meaningless. The front seven of OSU dominated the game and was the reason the Badgers had no chance to win the game. Yards are great. How many did the Badgers get when they had to have them? Not many. Moving between the 30's makes for nice stats. Scoring when you get down there is where games are won. The Badgers could not do it because the OL was getting the crap beat out of them. The first INT, a key play in the game was forced by the pass rush. Toon was wide open and Tolzien missed him badly because of the rush. If he is standing back there with time, he hits Toon easily there. As well as the defense played, when the chips were down and they needed a stop to take a halftime lead, how did they do? The defense of OSU dictated the offensive game plan for them. No reason for Tressel to take a lot of chances with the way our OL was getting dominated up front. He knew what his defense could do. It really is a simple game. Block and tackle. OSU did it much better on Saturday.

Um...do we need to dig up some posts of yours from last basketball season? The spinning was at an all-time high during the losing streak, or have you forgotten?

Nobody here give a f*ck what you think. Learn this. Embrace it.

That is not very nice language.

I know 13 out of 15 is tough to take, but relax. It's only football.

Sound advice. Maybe you should consider taking it yourself? I could probably find 20 posts from the last week plus that say some variation of 'Wisconsin earned the win.' Does that mean we no longer have the right to notice their weaknesses? Do I have to refer to the badgers as "Wisconsin - who beat us this year and therefore has no faults" whenever I mention them, just to sate your ego? Or maybe you think this is some weird war, and since we lost a game to you, Minnesota is now technically part of Wisconsin and is therefore obligated to blindly cheer for the badgers. (Come to think of it, that would explain why you spend all your time on this posting board.)

I'm hoping both teams lose by forfeit. nm

Is it possible to weaponize swine flu? This is a totally hypothetical question.

Nice attempt at deflecting...care to answer my question?

Or are you through giving pointers on how to correctly post in reference to the Badgers?

I have to go with Iowa. I agree with those who respect Ferentz and can't stand the Smug Mug. Also, the Big 10 could use a team in the national title coversation, even if it's Iowa. Either way, it brings up a nauseating feeling. Kind of like rooting for Brett Favre.

All Gopher fans should be rooting for the outcome that gives the Gophers their best chance at a conference title, or in lieu of that, the outcome that gives the Gophers a chance to finish ahead of one or both teams.

In this case Gopher fans should root for Iowa because the Gophers would win the conference if Iowa edges Wisconsin and the Gophers win out. As unlikely as that may be, it is the rational choice unless you have some other reason for wanting one or the other to win.
