I have to say I'm encouraged by what the Troy QBs did in Iowa City today. Going into the 4th Qtr, Iowa was only up 24-21. I'm also going to bank on the fact that this year's Hetherman Def is better than Troys. Because if the Troy QBs can do this in Iowa City, I have high hopes for what Max might be able to get done at home next Sat night.

Iowa's offense is pedestrian. They put up high numbers vs Illinois State (FCS, 2-1) and Troy (Sun Belt, 0-3) but those are teams that a B1G team should be at handily. When they played Iowa State, their only P4 game so far, they only put up 19 points. I think it's safe to say our defense is markably better than the defenses Iowa's offense has had to face so far, so I honestly think we could hold them to 14 points or less.

Iowa's defense is also looking shakey, IMO. They shut out Illinois State, but that's an FCS team. Iowa State scored 20, and 0-3 Troy scored 21. I think our offense should be able to score at least 21, if not more.

Knock on wood, but I'm predicting a dominant win next Saturday, and the first back to back wins vs Iowa since 2010-2011.
 



I don't hate them, at all. Pity maybe, but not hate.....

Additional side note: Troy played at Iowa without their starting quarterback. Out with injury.

The Iowa defense will go from facing Troy's second and third QBs to facing Max Brosmer.
 

It typically doesn’t matter with these two teams. The teams with the fewest mistakes and big plays wins. Koi with a punt return for the win would be beautiful

Unfortunately the Gophers only scored 17 points against their only P4 opponent, and also put up high numbers against 2 teams a B1G team should beat.

We should all wave Fair catch to Kirk Ferentz at end of first quarter. As a public service announcement to the Iowa fans, the porta potties at the fair ground lots and bathrooms at Huntington Bank stadium are not hotel rooms.

The scoreboard/stadium crew has been on their game in the past (playing jump around after the Wisconsin win for example) and if they are still on top of things, they should use one of the endless TV timeouts (preferably in the first half) to play a sort of public service “rules of the game” style recording of an explanation of an invalid fair catch.

That may be the longest sentence I have ever posted on Gopherhole.

I hope we beat ‘em. Always good to beat a local rival. But I gotta say there is nothing stupider than the Who Hates Iowa deal.

I LOVE “who hates Iowa?”

As I’ve said before, I don’t really hate anyone but I have seen multiple times how that silly thing gets under their skin. When it does get under their skin, I get a little warm feeling in the way it sort of balances all the bs I witnessed their drunken fans conduct up here over the years.
