Well why go to the games if you already know they will lose in heartbreaking ways due to terrible execution by the QB? The Gopher games were so predictable last year with how Adam Weber would piss games down his leg

How is the middle school scouting going?

Weber got it based on stats. He did deserve the 2nd team All Big ten honor and I never claimed he didn't. He was the 5th or 6th best QB in the conference at the end of the year.

The first four games combined with terrible QB play around the conference early in the year solidified him as a contender for postseason awards by week 4.

Clark, Stanzi, a healthy Painter at the end of the year, a healthy Bacher or Kafka were both better at the end of the year, Pryor was better by the end of the year, Juice Williams and Weber were very close at the end of the year (If I am not mistaken Williams was 2nd team media and Weber was second team Coaches.)

Stats from the first 4 games
79/110 .718 967 yards 241.8 ypg 7 TDs 1 Int
4-0

Stats from the last 9 games
176/300 .587 1615 179.4 ypg 8TDs 7 Ints
3-5

Not taking away from his awards. He earned 2nd team all big ten by playing the whole year while many other QBs around the conference did not play the whole year. He was probably the best Qb in the conference for the first 1/3rd of the season. Granted it was one of the worst years in memory in terms of Big Ten QB play.
To argue he was the 2nd best QB in the conference at the end of the year is insane. He was 5th at best.

Once again I state, he did deserve 2nd team all big ten honors. He was not close to being the 2nd best QB in the conference at the end of the season.

I didn't say he was anything other than that he was recognized as 2nd team all big ten. But instead of celebrating the award, many on this board (including you by this very post) try to say it was a fluke. It is not a fluke, it was an award he won. Good for him.

yep so predictable, well except Syracuse, Air force, and NW, oh and MSU but I guess those games don't count. All of those games featured drives late in games to either come back or get on top for good. I get that Weber must have kicked your dog or stole your girlfreind, but don't be revisionist with history, if you are going to criticize, at least be accurate. There were no games to my mind that Weber "pissed" away victory without some other part of the team also being less than stellar.
I don't expect you to understand that it's a team sport and that our team hasn't been very good the last several years, Weber's part of it, but not the only part. Geez.

Weber lost the Illinois game all by himself, He lost the Iowa game all by himself, and he tried to lose the South Dakota game but Wilhite and Carter would not let him. The Syracuse game and the Air Force game were also won by The Line Backing corp. The only game Weber had was the MSU game and that took a lucky catch by Bennett off of Tow Arnett. So yes Weber had us competing for the Big Ten Championship I guess.

And it is a team game until the QB is throwing terrible cross field picks and bouncing balls at peoples feet, then it is not a team game because the rest of the team has no chance. The Defensive team has no chance to rest and the receiving team has no chance to catch passes.

1)"Weber lost the Illinois game all by himself"
-Not even close, he threw one pick 6 which was inexcusable, our offensive line also forgot to block and our defense gave up way too many points to a backup QB, team game.

2)"He lost the Iowa game all by himself"
-No again, we went into the teeth of a very good defense and came up short again and again in short yardage situations. The D played out of their minds and special teams did well, but the running game was not a factor, Weber was not good, but he didn't lose it by himself

3)"He tried to lose the South Dakota game but Wilhite and Carter would not let him."
-He again threw an inexcusable pick 6, but our entire O was unable to make a play all game.
We should have had our way up front on both sides of the ball and been able to simply run roughshod over an FCS D.
4)"The Syracuse game and the Air Force game were also won by The Line Backing corp."
-Our linebackers played unbelievably well early in the season, but they didn't win by themselves, Cmon. Weber to Decker made plays down the stretch in both those games either getting us tied up or sealing the deal. You can't give credit to only the players that make highlight reels.

5)"The only game Weber had was the MSU game and that took a lucky catch by Bennett off of Tow Arnett."
He had 400 yards passing and 5 TD's, and you only remember the lucky bounce pass?
If you're going to criticize you also need to give credit when its due.
6)"So yes Weber had us competing for the Big Ten Championship I guess."
Not even close, we were a very average 6-6, and lost our bowl game.

7)It is a team game until the QB is throwing terrible cross field picks and bouncing balls at peoples feet, then it is not a team game because the rest of the team has no chance. The Defensive team has no chance to rest and the receiving team has no chance to catch passes.

Weber threw 2 pick 6's late in the season, check out how many Stanzi threw for Iowa.
It's still a team game no matter what, Weber gave players plenty of chances, and yes he threw some bad balls. Our lack of a running game would be more to blame for defensive players not being able to rest, we couldn't grind out the clock all year. Our receivers also had several game where they came down with the dropsies, so I fail to see the argument that they had no chance.

Its a team game man, not even Farve or Manning can win by themselves.

ole

I was being sarcastic about Weber having us competing for Big Ten Championships. The point is Weber does not have us competing for Big Ten championships and he never will, so why continue to start him and believe we will have a break out season? Weber has shown what he gives us and it is a very mediocre to poor QB and we can't win the Big Ten title with him, we can only expect a middle of the pack record at best.

That's a fair statement, I somewhat agree, though for me(a minority opinion) the QB position is simply not that important to win college football games. Give me a stellar O line and a defense and a poor to mediocre QB can win quite a few games, just look at our pig stinking pigeoneye opponents to the south, Stanzi is a very poor to average QB, they won alot of games because they could run the ball at will and play smothering D.
Gray does bring playmaking ability to the table, and that's why I expect him to take over at the first sign of ineptitude this year. If we win, Weber starts, if we falter early Gray steps in and we roll the dice with his ability and inexperience.

Rallis should be starting at QB

From what i've read, it doesn't sound like Gray has taken ahold of anything at QB. I also was extremely impressed with him at WR last season. I suppose, (since this is a fantasy thread) that I would want Weber to be the obvious pick at QB. Then I would want Gray to be moved to WR. I think our offense becomes a lot more dynamic with Gray on the feild, somewhere. So if they aren't moving Gray to WR, then I would pick him for the Qb.

I agree with both parties' statements. Its unrealistic to expect a quantum leap forward from Weber. One can make the statement that Weber lost us the IL game, but would Gray have won it? You could just as easily argue that Gray lost our bowl game for us (although that's on Brewster for putting him in there at critical situations).

Judging by the poll results, most on this board feel that Gray has more upside than Weber. But Marqueis also has a couple of underclassman QB pick six's in him waiting to come out. And its a fair to safe bet that he'll cost us a game as a starter this season. But that might pay dividends in 2011. The bigger question is whether Brewster is willing to risk his job on starting a green QB? Brewster may be more focused on still being gainfully employed in January 2011, as opposed to having the best QB situation going into September 2011.
