What influence does the starting QB have on your decision to watch/attend games?

I'll watch/attend the games either way, but I think you give Weber the first shot at it as long as he does well in practice.

I'll be at every home game and watch every other one on TV either way, but I would rather have Gray play.

I support the team so watching and attending games do not hinge on who plays at any given position. However, I really want to see Gray play extensively at QB at some time during this season. I do not mind giving Weber a shot to shine in his senior year, but I sincerely hope he does not get as many get out of jail cards as he had last year. When and if he struggles, he should be immediately be pulled and Gray should be allowed to play, extensively.

Mark Alt. He will be the best QB on campus in the fall. If he is good enough for the Hawkeyes, he should be more than good enough for the Gophers.

Where do I click for "Whoever the coaching staff thinks is the best QB when the season starts"?

+1 Gotta give our coaching staff the benefit of the doubt in knowing who will give us our best shot at success.

Seriously? Being invited to walk on and playing are two different things.

Whoever the staff feels gives us the best opportunity to win games. However, that opinion changes if the team struggles. For example, I have no interest in having a senior QB start the final 2-3 games of the season in an attempt to salvage a .500 record. Now, if that QB has had a great year up to that point and it's the defense or running game that is the obvious cause of the poor season, then you can't make a change at QB.

I want Weber's experience on the field. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone can eat them and move on. The kid's gone through too much b.s. to not want him to start, want to see him succeed. We can have the Gray circus in the future. When in the future? Maybe week 4. Hopefully next year.

On a lighter note, I want the qb who knows what its like to stare down a heavy blitz, get sacked by a bunch of blue chippers, and do a sweet spin move into the sack in the process. You guys know you're going to miss it in 2011.

Spin.
Move.

I want it to be Gray, because that would mean he gives us the best chance to win. If Weber gives us the best chance to win, it is going to be a long couple of years of watching Weber and whoever his eventual replacement ends up being.

Believe me Weber drove me crazy last year, and I often wished Gray would replace him. But I'm really hoping Horton gets Weber turned around and is the starter this fall.

It's a bit of a no-brainer question. If Weber is starting it's because he's doing well. If he's not it's because he didn't do well. I'm hoping that the gophers do well. It's hard to imaging Weber being replaced if we're winning. So I doubt we get in a situation where we are winning and Weber sucks enough for the coaches to make a change.

So given I want the gophers to do well, I'm hoping Weber has a great season. That is what I WANT to see happen.

I'm not sure this is how it went last season. I'm rooting for Weber. He seems like a good, tough, stand-up guy. But he wasn't good last year. When Gray wasn't able to get more playing time, I interpreted that as Gray not being ready. But the fact is, Weber was the starter, and he wasn't playing well. Hopefully, if that's the case again this year, we have an alternative.

it seems weber and gray are close in ability to lead the team. so if that is the case, I would rather we start the year with Gray. Either he does great or stumbles. If he stumbles at MTSU, then Weber can replace him without all of the pressure to play the backup. The fans were sold Gray, to not see him even run a series for 3 years has been a problem. If Weber starts and the offense doesn't light it up, Brewster has a problem, fans might turn on the team, etc. Bringing Gray in at that point might not work. You only start Weber IMO if he's the clear leader.

Weber has earned the start against MTSU. IF AW pulls an 8-20 with 3 picks, Gray gets the SD game to warm up for USC.

You should have had a 4th option...

"First one, then the other"

I agree with others that Adam Weber deserves to be the man vs. MTSU. But if he stumbles, or is just flat out ineffective, bench him. Otherwise this season will be a monument to Einstein's famous quote "insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result". If that occurs then you have to wonder if the same quote applies to Maturi with respect to Brewster.

3 yr starter.

He was the 10th best QB in the conference 2 of those 3 years. Possibly 11th last year (Illinois QB situation was worse, but Illinois beat Weber). Freshman year he was better only than the Iowa QB.
Junior year he managed 2nd team All Big Ten honors, but that was because so many schools switched QB's mid year. Pryor was a mid year switch. Stanzi didn't take over till the 4th or 5th game. Weber's best year he was probably the 5th or 6th best QB at the end of the year. And it was possibly the worst year for QB's in the history of the Big Ten.

I guess I have to go after this myth again. Do you think that other BT teams went into the season with the plan of switching starters halfway throught the season? no. The BT defenses forced this situation. If you are goin to simply say it was terrible QB play, you must also be at least open to the possibility that it was a good defensive year, no? So, in a year wher Weber completed over 62% of his passes for over 2700 yds and nearly a 2:1 td/int ratio (15:8), he didn't deserve the 2nd team honor? It is OK to not want weber to be the QB for all kinds of reasons, but there is really no reason to ridicule or undermine his past achievements.

One word two syllables. Platoon.

Gray couldn't win the job outright, but his athleticism brings a different dimension to the offense. Why not have a game plan based on giving Gray 25 to 30% of the snaps. Given the Jekyll/Hyde quality of Weber, it would be nice to be able to ride the hot hand. When Weber plays like he did against Michigan State, he can stay in most of the game. When the Weber who played the Illini and Jackrabbits shows up, Gray can take on a larger role.

Otherwise RS Gray. No point in him using eligibility if he isn't going to play significant snaps at QB

I want to see the Gophers win. I have some people around me who said they aren't coming back next year if Weber is starting. I wonder if that was just frustration talking.

Weber got it based on stats. He did deserve the 2nd team All Big ten honor and I never claimed he didn't. He was the 5th or 6th best QB in the conference at the end of the year.

The first four games combined with terrible QB play around the conference early in the year solidified him as a contender for postseason awards by week 4.

Clark, Stanzi, a healthy Painter at the end of the year, a healthy Bacher or Kafka were both better at the end of the year, Pryor was better by the end of the year, Juice Williams and Weber were very close at the end of the year (If I am not mistaken Williams was 2nd team media and Weber was second team Coaches.)

Stats from the first 4 games
79/110 .718 967 yards 241.8 ypg 7 TDs 1 Int
4-0

Stats from the last 9 games
176/300 .587 1615 179.4 ypg 8TDs 7 Ints
3-5

Not taking away from his awards. He earned 2nd team all big ten by playing the whole year while many other QBs around the conference did not play the whole year. He was probably the best Qb in the conference for the first 1/3rd of the season. Granted it was one of the worst years in memory in terms of Big Ten QB play.
To argue he was the 2nd best QB in the conference at the end of the year is insane. He was 5th at best.

Once again I state, he did deserve 2nd team all big ten honors. He was not close to being the 2nd best QB in the conference at the end of the season.

I voted Alipate. Not gonna happen, but if it did it'd mean he beat out two older QBs to take the job as a RS Freshman. If he is the future at the QB position for Minnesota, it'd be awesome to see him claim the job as soon as possible so he can get experience. But like I already said, not gonna happen.

Well why go to the games if you already know they will lose in heartbreaking ways due to terrible execution by the QB? The Gopher games were so predictable last year with how Adam Weber would piss games down his leg
