Top 20, not bad. How does SMU put up that kind of cash?

$2MM for SMU boosters is probably less than they were paying for players during their "glory years" before they got the death penalty. They probably were able to save up a bit when they didn't have a program with players to play!

Go Gophers!!

this list gives me hope that we'll be able to competitively pay for a top notch coach.
on a side note, why is the B10 paying Jeff Tedford those big bucks???? lol

12. Jeff Tedford, California Big Ten $2,807,500
T26. Jeff Tedford, California Pac-10 $1,850,000

Pat Fitzgerald at $750,000 has to be one of the biggest bargains in BSC football. It would probably be bad form to try to poach a coach from your own conference, but I wonder if doubling his pay would get him to leave his alma mater.

I don't think Fitzgerald would ever leave Northwestern for Minnesota but that would be a great hire if it happened

You mean the coach of the most penalized team in the Big Ten who just blew a 21-0 lead?

I bet we are more likely to have Peterson or Harbaugh as the coach.

Chip Kelly only makes $1.5 Million?

Thats a great bargain for the Ducks.

That's this year's salary.

Starting in 2011, he has a 6-yr, $20 mil deal that guarantees a base of $2.4 mil.

Shoot. Cross Chip Kelly off the list...more penalties than Northwestern. Sorry Urban Meyer....not interested.

Keep in mind, whoever the Gophers offer, they will have to over pay to get them here. To attract a name coach here, money and stadium are all we have to offer.

I'd gladly take Tom O'Brien off NC State's hands. He had Boston College as a perennial bowl game winner (7 wins in 8 consecutive bowls) and sems to have NC State pointed in a good direction. I would think we could raise his salary about 85%.

Sorry Maximus the penalties part was a bit tongue-in-cheek. Blowing a 21-0 lead to PSU is a bit more concerning.

Would Probably Coach For $2 Million

Gene's all about the money baby!

For $2 mill and under we're looking at guys like Hoke and Calhoun. A lot of coaches out there make just under $2 mill at their current gig so why roll the dice at Minnesota where it seems to be impossible to live up to the standards of the fanbase/administration?

Yes, with our super high expectations of 1) beat teams from the Dakotas and 2) be competitive with our rivals

Unfortunately I think Glen Mason showed where the expectations of most fans and Administrators are for this program and it is an average team. I think a more hardcore group of fans, boosters, and people inside the AD want more from this program. I consider myself to be part of the latter.

Interesting thing to me is that Snyder at K-State gets only $1 million. He resuscitated a football corpse - twice. He also had no interest in the Gopher job on at least two occasions.

Some football corpses appear more difficult to resuscitate than others. The graveyard takes its toll.
