GI says Farrow committed on their front page now. Good to hear as I was hoping we could lock this kid up. On the other hand could he be using this to get a Wisky offer since his coach has Wisky ties? Does anyone close to the situation care to elaborate on this? I hope he signs the dotted line as a Gopher on signing day! Welcome James Farrow!

Farrow's dad is a U alum and this CB/WR/KR is already hearing from the Skunks. I didn't know what to think about Farrow before I saw his film, but when I did I actually liked what I saw. He displays good closing speed coming out of breaks in off zone coverage and actually tackles using proper technique and physicality, believe it or not. He has good speed by Minnesota standards and fairly good quicks. He made a nice recovery and read the eyes of the QB perfectly on a pump fake, putting himself in position to make the pick on an underthrown pass. He has good height already for a CB, although he'll need to add muscle and strength to his frame. He reminds me of Kim Royston coming out of HS. Farrow also was the top sleeper at a recent camp at Michigan and really created some nice buzz for himself. Now, if he could just turn things around in the classroom, the Gophers could have themselves a good player at a position of need.

His father was a WR for the Gophers.

His coach doesn't have Wisky ties. His HC is a UMD grad. The only coach on the current Minnetonka staff that has attended or coached at Wisconsin is Roger French who spent 4 years coaching there in the late 60's. However, he is a U of M graduate and coaching at the U for 8 years after leaving Wisconsin.

What you may be thinking of is that he has a former coach (sophomore year) that left Minnetonka to be a grad assistant at Wisconsin this past season.
 


He should be a 3star kid, and I would guess a high 3star. He has committed so early that he might not have the most impressive offer list (like Gjere), but he is the kind of kid who would get multiple Big 10 offers.
 




Could be that like Gjere and Olson and state kids from the past. They want to be gophers and just need the opportunity. It used to be that almost every kid in Mn. wanted to be a gopher. Maybe things are turning again. FINALLY

I like his length and how he isn't afraid to play man up on his opponent. Needs to get a little bigger, but that will come with a D1 strength training program. Overall I think the kid can contribute in the future for this program. Nice prospect and good luck next season James!

From way before I was born until well after I graduated high school. That being said, sometimes it seems like we think Minnesota kids no longer want to be Gophers. The year I graduated high school there were 35 Minnesota kids on the roster. Last season there were over 40. Bigger roster perhaps and back in my day they didn't roster freshmen (I don't think and I'm not looking it up again). There could be other variables at play, too, but it isn't like you can't find a Minnesota boy playing football at the U. Still, a spot on the Gophers roster definitely was THE aspiration for most Minnesota football players when I was growing up.
