It's still not for certain that UCLA will make it to the Big Ten.

U of California regents legally have the power to cancel the deal. Will be interesting to see how that saga plays out.

If the California Regents do block UCLA from joining the B1G, that might work to the B1G’s advantage. They can then add Stanford, Washington, Oregon, Notre Dame and a more southern school. Of course that might move Nebraska into the West Coast pod.

This would give the B1G a complete West Coast media market and recruiting footprint, plus entering the south for the same.

It would be suicidal for the regents to block the move. It would reduce the value of the athletic programs and hurt recruiting. UCLA would bring in much more revenue by joining the B1G. Also, a school like UCLA would not try to make a move unless they got some indication that the regents would back it. This decision was not made without some degree of planning.

Agreed. I don't know how you drop the Big 12 to 3rd when you add Houston, Cincy & BYU and take out Texas & OU. The Big 12 has been the best BB conference for some time now, I don't see a drop off between the comparison of those teams

It was made entirely at the campus level, with no knowledge or involvement of the regents. "Easier to ask forgiveness than get permission"

Both UCLA and Cal have debt/money issues in the PAC. Many have speculated that it could more than anything be an attempt to get both into the Big Ten.
