This is a list of the last match between Minnesota and each of the power conferences.

ACC - Wake Forest, 1968
Big 12 - TCU, 2014
Pac 12 - USC, 2011
SEC - Vanderbilt, 1959

A few rules when looking up this information...
  • This only counts regular seasons. Bowl games are not included
  • It only goes through the 2014 season.
  • The conference the team was in at the time of the game is used.

Wow, that's pretty surprising. Thanks for posting. Hopefully Kill gets to the point where a game or two against the power 6 during the non con is something he's interested in.

I think the Home Coming slogan was "Wreck the House That Vanderbilt", or something close to that

Pretty sure the Gophers took on the ACC last year. Has everyone forgotten the game in Chapel Hill that was broadcast in TarheelVision?

None

Oct. 31 , 1959. Must have been halloween week-end. The phrase was " Spook the house that Vanderbuildt"

Once the Gophers started to ask for a Home and Home series with BCS schools they could only count on the Pac 12. They would occasionally play Big East schools when that was a power conference. They played Syracuse in 2009.

Hope they get some bigger schools but only if they get the Home and Home. Like to see them play SEC schools but only in that H&H. That would mean the SEC would have to come North and without a massive payday.

Isn't there some cliche about pigs flying..

The gophers have played few if any regular season games against ACC or SEC schools, but have played lots of games against the PAC 8, Big 8 and former independent Pitt. I think Vanderbilt and Mississippi are the only SEC schools to travel to Minneapolis unless Tulane was still in the conference when they came up here in the 30s. Every Big 8 school has been to Minneapolis at least once although I think Okla St was called Okla A&M back then. Wake probably only came north because Cal Stoll was head coach there at the time IIRC.

This is very interesting indeed. It would be nice to mix in a game against a team from each power conference at least every 10 years or so. We should schedule a PAC-12 team at least every five years.

This isn't quite right - forget the year, but we played and beat Alabama in one of our many Music City Bowl Trips about a decade ago.

One of the asterisks at the bottom in the OP notes that bowl games are NOT included.
