At this rate, after the Ohio State game seems like a good point.

Gives him 5 conference games to attempt to right the ship, so it's fair. Gets it established to everyone that we're getting a new coach for next year. Michigan State did something similar with John L. Smith in 2006 & Florida with Zook in 2004. Don't have to wait for the last game, but doing 5 games in would be pointless, IMO.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how we would be "worse off" if we fired Brew now. I'm not trying to get in an argument. Just want the Pro's and Con's.

I guess I'd counter with how would we be "better off" if we fired him now. What would happen? Cosgrove takes over? Horton?

I guess I just don't see a pro to doing it now other than Minnesota pulling a Nuke LaLoosh & "announcing our presence with authority." Would more fans come to games if he was gone? I don't think so.

My opinion is if it keeps going at this rate, after the Ohio State game would be fine for an announcement & letting the staff coach out those final 3 games.

It would be better for the fans. See BleedGopher's post. I'm guessing Boosters feel much like the fans do.

See how the Big Ten season goes and if the change is made, Nov.14th is the day. Cut ties and start the public search while Horton HC the last game. I think there is talent on this team and a good coach could win right away. I think Brewster is going fine in bringing in talent and is getting some better results in the classroom, but his coaching is horrible. No discipline on this team at all.

I think Joe Paterno deserves to get his 400th win over someone who can actually coach.

We can't risk having Brewster be that guy.

How about letting Brewster go once he reaches 7 losses, which will mean the Gopher's will not be bowl eligible. That's about as fair as it should get.

Fire him now. Immediately. Waiting just makes people wonder whether the dreadful state of the football program will end or will be allowed to continue. Be decisive, show the world that a horrible coach will not be tolerated. A strong statement is the best way to start trying to right the ship.

This. Obviously this.

Don't fire him until you know for sure whether or not Marty Mornhinweg is available.

What is the precedent for college football coaches being fired mid-season? I can only think of one off the top of my head and that was at Florida in 2004 when Ron Zook was canned part-way through but then allowed to coach up until the bowl game. That actually seems like a reasonable compromise to me: have the rest of this season's dismal record go on Brewster's coaching record, but still have the administration make a statement that this type of performance is WAY beneath what we expect at Minnesota.
