What would you like to see in the first game?

Just Win, baby.

Bottom line, I want to see signs of improvement: fewer blown assignments - better execution - a more crisp feel to the offense. On defense - Stop The Run!

Ideally, I would like to see the team build up a good lead in the 2nd half, so the coaches can get all the reserves some playing time and evaluate depth at different positions.

(And, I even hesitate to say this, but No Major Injuries.)

(PS - I don't get the CBS channel on my cable system here in rural MN, so I will be listening on the radio until I fall asleep, whenever that turns out to be.)

+1 - I am hoping that we can get reserves some valuable playing time.

-Good line play, out of both the O & the D.
-Discipline
-Swagger

If the first two exist, I think we'll all be pleased with the outcome.

Put the hammer down early and do not let up until the final whistle. Few/no penalties. One defensive/special teams score. Put the foot on the neck early and do not let up until the final whistle. Solid line play on both sides of the ball. 8 different receivers making a catch. Put the clamps on UNLV's offense early and do not let up until the final whistle.

Confidence in decisions and play. Improvement as the game progresses. Ultimately, a win, to start the season.

Dominant defense, an efficient offense, and competent special teams.

For me it's about 3 things:

1) I'd like to see one RB step up and be dominant by the end of the game amongst the group. Isn't there and old saying that if you have more than one of something you really have none of something. I'd like to find that one "Go To" guy that we can count on for the rest of the season. The opportunity is there boys, go earn it.

2) Improved secondary play. Excited to see how the new Juco's help our pass D.

3) Stoudemire getting closer to breaking the return record.

And I'll add a fourth, no injury concerns to make for a long rest of the year.

Go Gophs!

No big plays on defense, a couple explosive plays on offense, no "head-scratching" plays and general competense. I think we'll outclass them with our skill so if we play solid fundamental football we should come out with a W.

Defense
* DT - applying pressure and stopping the run
* DE - Atleast 2 sacks causing havoc on passing downs
* LB - Staying in their gaps and getting to the ball quickly
* CB - Blanketing Receivers
* S - Not letting receivers behind them and closing on plays quickly
Overall, I don't want to see any big plays from their offense and I want to see them get some turnovers preferably interceptions from the secondary.
Offense
* QB - Create explosive plays in the pass and run game while committing 0 turnovers.
* RB - 5 ypc and several runs over 20 yards. No Fumbles
* O line - Dominance - I want to see wide running gaps, 0 sacks, and plenty of time for Gray to throw
* WR/TE - YAC, "The go to guy," let's see who emerges as Gray's favorite target and see who can make a couple big plays

I would like to see a victory, an awesome Ski-U-Mah chant, lots of beer, and many good looking co-eds!

Explosive plays on offense. We don't have nearly enough, and I think that is a part of the reason why we struggle against seemingly inferior talent. When you can't pop off big plays, it puts a lot of pressure on your offense to be consistent to drive the ball down the field, which is not good for us. I wanna see an RB reel off a 40, 50 yarder, or Gray hit someone downfield for that big pass play way more often this year.

That's kind of a big picture, what I wanna see this whole season, type of thing, but I wanna see evidence we will be more explosive in this game.

But as has been said, any W will be fine with me that night.

I would like to see a victory, an awesome Ski-U-Mah chant, lots of beer, and many good looking co-eds!

What section are you in? 204 Ski, 103 U, 104 Mah everyone else in the stadium do all three!!!

A combination of successful runs by several backs. Several receivers catching and running away from defenders down field. Tacos at the snack-bar.

Just pad the effin stats boys! both sides of the ball. Stomp em like Wisky did last year so they know better then to even think that they can mess with the gophers or a big ten school for that matter. Make them realize why they play in the Mountain West!

This may be selfish, but at a minimum I'd like to see them cover the spread.

wisky beat them in Las Vegas in '10 by twenty points to open the season.

I want to beat them by twenty-one.

Last year wisky beat them by 34 points at home to open the season.

I want to beat them by 35 to open next season.

Ideally for me it would be:

A shut out/ at least two sacks, Score minimum one touchdown per quarter, preferrably two, while playing base offense. At least two long/ sustained drives, and excellent special teams play all around.

Perhaps more realistically:

Hold them to 10 points or less, two sacks 2 to 4 tackles for a loss, Score 24 or more points, average 40yards a punt, and NO big plays given up on special teams.

I'd sure like to see us look like the superior team. Come out and dominate the line of scrimmage. I'm not worried about a few mistakes here and there, I just don't want to look like we belong playing UNLV, unless it is for an easy win. Just like we should dominate New Hampshire next week (and NDSU and USD, but that's another story).

A relaxing win.
Few penalties.
Smooth substitutions.
Effective line play on both sides of the ball.
Confidence and poise developing in our young skill players.
A happy Coach Kill during the post game presser.

Anything that gets us a W.

More specifically, I would love to see the Defense get some good pressure on the quarterback and get some sacks. I would also love to see the secondary get at least one interception.

Gray throws for over 250 yards while rushing for 100. The run game takes over the second half and consistently runs out the second half.
Exactly

1) win the turnover battle.
2) Shut the run game down in base defense.
3) 60/40 run to pass ratio on O
4) Control the trenches
5) No big injuries
6) Punting average over 32.2 yards net, hand timed.

What would you like to see in the first game?

AuEGO4, goldyspop, the girls in the wedding party, and beer.

A few Gopher TDs in the corner where I'll be sitting (Sec. 104) plus another half dozen or so MN scores elsewhere.

Ski-U-Mah and Go Gophers!

I would like to see the defense dominate (turnovers, sacks, QB hurries, stuff the run-just be all over the place-be smothering-absolutely dominate the UNLV offense) and I would like to see the offense complete passes, receivers catch balls and make plays. Also would like to see the punter punt consistently well.

No penalties caused by lack of preparation or focus (offside, delay of game, illegal shift, illegal formation)
No penalties caused by lack of discipline (roughing the kicker, roughing the passer, USL conduct)
No broken plays
No substitution confusion
Long, time-consuming drives
No fumbles
No blown coverages
