What uniform combo will be worn at the UNLV game?

I don't know how reputable this is, as it's from some blogger's WordPress account, but: For football, the NCAA's rule book states, "Players of opposing teams shall wear jerseys of contrasting colors, and the visiting team shall wear white jerseys. White jerseys may be worn by the home team when the teams have agreed before the season."

I think it was 2008 & 2009 (or 2007 & 2008) where USC & UCLA wanted to both wear their home jerseys because it's how some of the past games used to be. But they didn't ask for approval before the season or what not. Anyway, one year, the one team was penalized 15 yards before the game on the opening kickoff, but it was agreed upon by the schools that it would be declined so they could both wear their home jerseys.

As for the combos, I think all will look. I like the look of the gold & maroon pants with the white tops, but I think the white on white is kind of bad ass.

I thought they were penalized a time out and the other team called one to make it even?
 

I think I will like all three away uniform combos so I'll be happy either way. I have grown to really like the new uniforms and they have helped me quantify what exactly I didn't like about the old uniforms: the "busy" piping as well as the outlined numbers. Really, the only unform combo home or away that I am not looking forward to is the maroon jerseys over white pants. Pretty sure I will love every other combo. Just happy to be able to watch a Gopher game. Counting the days...

Oh and if the past is any indicator, my guess is they will go white over white.

White jersey on Gold pants for away games. Maroon jersey on Gold pants for home games. Gold jersey on Maroon pants for "special" games (example would be a gold out or big rival game at night).

All white with the white helmets made us look like wisconsin's practice squad. All maroon (including helmets) at night has made us look like iowa in the past. This is most evident on TV broadcasts. But the gold jersey and maroon pants really pops and is balanced with the maroon helmet.

Of course I think the players actually get to decide what they wear, right? Can anyone confirm that?

Man, I still can't get over how awesome those helmets are. I want one for my living room.
 


A white jersey with maroon pants doesn't seem like much of a contrast to a team that's wearing red and grey. They're almost different shades of the same colors. I would think the gold pants would make us really pop.
 

I think all three combos look pretty sweet, but if I were to guess, they'll go the all whites. I'd love
to see the white on gold again...If I remember right, we haven't worn that combo since the Mason era
 



I like all of the combinations both home and away (some more than others) with the exception of anything involving white pants. White is fine for pants if it's one of your school colors (like Becky or PSU, for example), but a main component of your jersey should not feature a non-school color, even if it is a neutral. White jerseys are a necessary evil as part of the uniform code. Everybody has a white jersey. Most do not have white pants, especially if it's not a school color. The all-white look is terrible in my opinion, especially when paired with a maroon helmet and black shoes. White pants with either maroon or gold jerseys are even worse. I would prefer white-on-gold (we are the Golden Gophers, after all), but white-on-maroon is ok too. Please no more white-on-white.
 

I prefer gold pants for EVERY game like we did under Mason. I hate the white pants and think they should be burned. We are the GOLDEN Gophers, we look absurd in white pants. White jerseys/gold pants look great on the road.

I love the gold pants. As far as the white pants, if they had a vertical maroon and gold stripe or some accent they would look much better... At the end of the day I think a big WIN in any color pants is perfect!
 

We're the "Golden Gophers" not the "Maroon Gophers" or the "White Gophers". Every combination should include a major Golden portion of uniform.

The helmets are always maroon. The pants should always be gold.

Road Uni: White on Gold Pants
Home Uni: Maroon on Gold Pants

A big block M on the front of the jersey? Similar to my avatar's sweater? If so, I'm afraid you've lost me there - never been a fan of that sort of look, unless those who are wearing it are also wearing skates.
 

haters gonna hate but the solid uniforms are pretty crisp. The maroon on maroon with the helmets is effin bad ass. Close as we are gonna get to a menacing looking uniform. I would love a gold on gold combo. I really dont understand why everyone is so vehemently against it. Who hates it when our BBall team rocks the all gold!? if only we could get some of you guys against the all gold to channel that energy into some raucous cheering at the games we might solve our atmosphere problem!

ps. Keep in mind that our helmets' face-masks are black too so why would you complain about all white with black shoes?

Everybody has the alternate one game jersey these days - for that I do like the all white.

Yup,that's it. Just like Michigan wore last year. Talk about throwback.

Maybe for a battle for the Little Brown Jug both teams could wear them.

I agree, it's too "trendy" right now with Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc doing it. I hate piling on. Plus it looks like hockey and isn't a throwback because we never wore that. They could do something like the ones we wore in the early 1900s with a U on one side of the chest and an M on the other with lacing down the middle.

I dont think you are correct on this.

Where then, did this M come from that some of the Bronko family wore?

I bet we did use this back in the day. As you have seen from the 1800s Gopher football team pictures... we did use U-M on our chests. I would bet we used that old style M. I'd be ok with the M's on both jerseys vs Michigan (new or old). The default hockey jersey has mostly White and Maroon.

I'm sure I have seen some old photos of Gopher football uniforms with the big block M on the front. I did a search but couldn't find any. Maybe the old 'steel trap' is getting rusty.

I'm also curious why the brick numeral look was not used on the maroon jerseys.
