It's early, but it ain't that early....

Jets
Browns
Raiders
Saints (?) - Rattler has actually looked okay and kept the Saints competitive, but likely not the answer
Browns

Teams that probably need to think about it;

Panthers - Bryce Young looks pretty good at times, but not to so much other times. He'll have the rest of the season to make his case

Cardinals - Kyler Murray. Somewhat oft-injured, Brissett played in his absence today and looked pretty good despite being outmatched against the Colts. The Cardinals need to at least draft a QB on Day 2 of the draft you would think

Steelers - Rodgers ain't playing forever, and it's hard to imagine them doing much with Rudolph

Dolphins - It's hard to imagine the Dolphins sticking with Tua long-term, even without the concussion history. Tua has a massive cap hit next year and dead cap hit. They are in trouble there, and their cap issues with Tyreek Hill won't help them either

The draft class looks real blah and unpolished.

Moore, Mendoza, Sellers, ?Simpson

Can’t say I’d want to be picking high if those are my choices

Nussmeier hasn't exactly been lighting it up this year, either. Things can always change but it's not shaping up to be a stellar QB class.

favorite part is last year's projected guys are....

Arch Manning #1
Cade Klubnick #2
Sam Leavitt #3
Drew Allar #4
Sellers #5

or
Nussmeier #1
Allar #2
Klubnick #3
Sellers #4
Mendoza #5
Leavitt #6

which tells you all you need to know about this class sucking coming in and basically everyone who was under consideration being bad this year. If you end up at 1, absolutely one I'd try trade down.

On a Vikes note, would love it if Downs fell to where the Vikes are picking. Perfect replacement for Smith and about as near a can't miss prospect as you can get imo.

We are in the era of QBs who had covid high school football + had to sit forever behind old man QBs in college.

Hard to develop that way.

Time to revisit this thread, although not a lot has changed?

Looking at some remaining schedules, the Raiders are a very real possibility for the #2 (maybe #1?) overall pick next spring. Hard to imagine them not taking a QB. The Raiders matchup in a few weeks with the Giants will definitely go a long ways towards shaping up the top 3 in the draft.

The Panthers are not only going to pick very high, but Bryce Young continues to pile up solid games (with the occasional clunker).

Seen rumors/speculation around the Cardinals trading Kyler Murray next spring, with the Raiders as a possible trade candidate. Not sure how much I buy that, although I'd love to see the Cardinals move on from Murray sooner than later. Brissett continues to play better than Murray was playing, not even really that close. The Cardinals have some QB decisions to make next spring with both guys.

The Steelers and Dolphins could very well be looking to draft a QB but it's likely neither will draft in the top 5-7 picks.

I would rank them this way, and outside of Mendoza, I'm not sure there's another legit QB prospect that warrants a 1st Round grade despite the importance of that position:

1. LV (2-10) - Geno Smith...enough said.

2. PIT (6-6) - I think this is Tomlin's last year with the Steelers (Vikings? 😉) and Rudolph is not the answer.

3. NYJ (3-9) - The Fields experiment is over and the NY market will demand another new toy.

4. CLE (3-9) - I suppose Sanders could still show something this year but I've seen nothing that indicates he's an NFL starter.

5. NO (2-10) - They have Rattler and Shough but both those guys are backups at best.

6. MIA (5-7) - I don't see how the Dolphins get out of Tua's contract with all of his Dead money on the books.

7. ARI (3-9) - Brissett is a better QB than Murray but they are going to have a tough time moving Kyler's contract.

My guess is one of these teams trades for Mac Jones and my money is on Vegas or the Jets. The question would be where would you slide the Vikings into these rankings?

The Raiders are closing in on the #1 overall pick in next spring's draft but who knows if they LOVE any of the QB's coming out?

The Vikings will definitely be in the market for a veteran QB next offseason to hold down the fort behind JJM. The Raiders have an interesting QB room as it stands and it would/could get even more interesting if they are drafting a QB next spring.

They would have a 1st round drafted QB, Geno Smith (uggh...), Kenny Pickett, and Aidan O'Connell (they also have NDSU alum Cam Miller on their practice who I know they like). Pickett I think is going to be a FA, I think O'Connell will be under contract next year. Pickett makes like $2M, O'Connell makes a little over $1M.

I don't know what the fit would be in KOC's offense but I wouldn't hate bringing in Aidan O'Connell. He's started some games for a dumpster fire of a team with an abysmal roster and looked serviceable at times. Hell, I don't even know that I would hate taking a flyer on Pickett.

Going to be pretty interesting to see who KAM/KOC decide to bring in to sit behind JJM.

Another name I hadn't thought of; how much did they like Carson Wentz before he got injured?

I suggested Flacco in the offseason before he signed with CLE and he'd still be my choice if those are our options. I'm convinced we'd have three (3) more wins with him as our backup to start the year.

You should really focus your attention on locating a Kyler Murray jersey after the Raiders trade for him. You know it's happening. 😉

Per Eagles fans on Twitter, they need to fire Siriani and trade Jalen Hurts, so they may be in the market.

Siriani is largely worthless when he doesn't have exceptional OC and DC pushing the right buttons. Still one of the best rosters in the NFL, they are underachieving for the most part. That was a pretty beat up Chargers team they just lost to.

Some other coaches I think are mostly clueless: Zac Taylor in Cincy, Raheem Morris in Atlanta, Mike McDaniel in Miami; too early to tell on some of the new ones from last year but Liam Coen in Jax seems to have those guys playing hard, despite his QB play.

I saw someone throw that out there a couple months ago and Murray not finishing the season sure didn't do anything to quell rumors of him leaving town. I think it's very possible, but is the answer really Jacoby Brissett? He's played decent, but they keep losing. I still like Gannon as HC in Arizona, but one more year of no success could be hard for anyone to survive. I really hope he makes it

Theres generally a "QB shortage" in the league. Some are bordering between the groups, but this is my estimation

Def not looking: NE, Buff, Balt, Cinci, KC, LAC, Hou, Den, Dal, Wash, GB, Chi, Det, TB, LAR, SF
Would look if the right opportunity arose: Phil, NYG, Sea, Jax
Def looking: Miami, NYJ, Pitt, Cle, Indy (now that Jones is injured, all is out the window), Tenn, LV, MN, Car, Atl, NO, AZ

so 12 teams who will absolutely be in the market and an additional 4 or so who would look if the right offer/opportunity arose. Unfortunately the market for the draft looks like shit with more projects than viable options so you're going to have a big market for old vets who can fill in/stop gap (drive up price so there aren't going to be a ton of options for the Vikes pending their price point) and teams reaching for prospects, which is why it'd be real nice if the vikes could move up in the draft so they can shop that pick and pick up more assets for someone willing to reach while we're going to give JJ another year unless someone ships a whole bunch of draft capital to us for him (very doubtful).

It will actually be pretty interesting to see who comes out vs not given how much NIL these guys command but a very lean QB crop which will lead to some reaching. Moore, Simpson, Sellers, and Leavitt are nowhere near ready for the NFL level but will project better than say Beck, Klubnick, Allar, and Nussmeier because they may get better.

So all that to say, would envision AZ has a market for both Murray and Brissett with a really favorable contract on Brissett and maybe someone willing to take a shot on rehabbing Murray. There are some real rough QBs that are sticking around rosters because there just ain't much for depth around the league.

Based on his comments yesterday and other rumors floating around, it sounds like Joe Burrow is ready to get the hell out of CIN.

I have no idea what realistic trade value JJM has at this point in regards to draft stock. If he plays wells the rest of the season, it certainly will get a boost. Of course, it might also convince the Vikings to run it back another year and avoid giving up valuable draft picks to upgrade.

CIN in: JJM, 2026 FRP & 2027 FRP
MIN in: Joe Burrow

Too much? Not enough?

Probably not enough, but worth a shot. Throw in Jordan Addison.

Burrow makes 55mil a year. I’m not sure how much of the roster you’d have to gut to make this happen

Valid point for sure. Also need to factor in his injury history, too. It certainly would be easier to get done if we hadn't bombed our last 3-4 drafts and had multiple contributors on Rookie deals.
