Just like with other aspects of life/business, you'd find talented individuals that make them successful and effective as leaders. Some have very good organizational/administrative skills that keep operations or projects running smoothly, but may not necessarily be someone who has a public persona. You see others that are who are visionaries who have the knack to pick the right people to run things. You also see others that are very charismatic type who seem to attract the right attention. I'd venture to say that you need someone with a combination of all these qualities. We need someone good at building relationships with donors & alumni, who is very approachable to the general public in addition to being very good at running things. Most importantly, we don't want a repeat of meta-tongue gate. Who would like to be the next AD?
