The Cyclones have over achieved this year; especially for a team that has had 3 head coaches in 4 years. These kids have been through a lot and I couldn't be happier for them.
Again, I don't see there being a blowout in either direction in this game. A few things to consider regarding ISU's loses. First, if we are going to discount the Nebraska game because of 8 turnovers; then let's be fair and say the game against Iowa (10-2) is would be closer if we didn't turn it over 6 times.
We lost a heart breaker by one point to KSU (6-6) in KC. I game we seemed to have control of until two costly fumbles in the second half led to quick KSU scores. We had a PAT blocked to end the game and this got into our kickers head.
As a result, he missed two PATS and a FG (IIRC) in the loss to KU (5-7). We may have even gone for two once of twice and missed it. Anyway, ISU lost by 5 in a shoot-out and had our usually VERY reliable kicker made his kicks we would have had enough points to win.
TA&M (6-6) had the #1 offense in the country and couldn't be beat at hope, until Texas was able to slip past them. We were without our starting QB and RB and started RSFr tandem again from the Nebraska game. We got whipped at Kyle Field.
OSU (9-3) came to town and ran all over us. We struggled with very good spread teams.
The game at Mizzou (8-4) was close and we led into the 3rd quarter, but as I said very good spread teams were tough for us this year. We gave up a couple of big offense plays in this game, something that this defense didn't do all year.
For the most part, the Cyclones beat the teams we were supposed to and lost to the best teams they played. There are a few exceptions: Nebraska isn't a game we should have won, but did. The KSU is a game that slipped away on a neutral field. Some argued if we had kept it at home, instead of arrowhead, we would have won. In hindsight, the KU game is the one that hurts more. We exposed their defense and were ultimately their only conference win this year.
Again, I expect to see a competitive game. The Cyclones have over achieved this year; especially for a team that has had 3 head coaches in 4 years.
