What grade would you give the Norwood Teague hire?
First off, he increased funding at VCU by 119% (from his VCU bio) in his tenure. I can't find any progress on the funding, but he did have a 4 million dollar upgrade to VCU's arena. Also increased the membership of the donor base 163%.Teague started a campaign for a new practice facility after Final Four run, but there is no construction started, right?
I thought VCU looked hard at upgrading an existing 60-year practice facility and the plan to raise ~$10MM for a new facility began just in the past year... if that is correct, do we know how far they've gotten on the funding to date (and if there are any 10% or higher donors that make up that amount)?
With no football at VCU, I'd love to give the guy credit for a basketball facility but not sure if there is reason to...
Seems like a good guy with some of the right things on his mind (i.e., marketing and fundraising)... as long as he's supportive of the big sport coaches and let's them do their job - fantastic. Hopefully he gets to make the call on the specifics of a Tubby extension.

Well, let me know if you can find something on my question - I'd appreciate it. On the percentages - need some context... 119% from what date to what date, and 119% of what? Any single large donors? If a dude averages 2.2 ppg one year after 1.0 the year before, he's upped his scoring average 120%. The guy who goes from 8.0 to 17.6 also saw an increase of 120%. Huge difference.
Not trying to take away from his accomplishments, just trying to understand what they are.

Associated Press]Teague made two smart hires to help turn the Rams into a basketball power in the Colonial Athletic Association and a dangerous team in the NCAA tournament. After losing Jeff Capel to Oklahoma in his first year on the job, Teague hired Anthony Grant to take over.

Ya, Grant wasn't hired by Teague, they were hired at almost the exact same time. Shaka was a good hire though.Ugh.. this is an AP story that's out there tonight. My thought was that VCU's ascent in college basketball really started with Grant (Capel had some success, but Grant really had results)... Shaka Smart came into a pretty good situation.. but, wasn't the hiring of Teague actually one day before the hiring of Grant? I don't believe he made the hire that started their rise in college basketball.
Looks like Teague has been able to get VCU to increase student fees to support athletics... a $15/semester or so increase in a student fee at Minnesota would do more for the athletic department in terms of $ every year than the men's basketball revised donation pricing structure... wonder what the appetite is for student fee increases to support athletics is at the U? Gotta think we'll see this pursued.
Lots of information at our fingertips today, but so much of it is flawed or just plain wrong.
Wow.. that's taking it back. I might still have a TI-81 or TI-85 laying around here somewhere, though.
Reading some of the reaction to the loss on the VCU boards, they say that he was hired the same time as Grant but possibly had a part in the decision.I thought I heard Teague say togay that he stole two coaches from Billy Donovan. I assumed that meant he made the Grant hire.
Football fans are freaking out by the inexperience in football but there is a reason he was offered the job by Miami. It is interesting to see the poll result difference between the basketball forum page and the football forum page. Basketball fans appear to be very happy and football fans are not quite as enthusiastic.
BTW - I use a TI-84 daily.
But it can do much more than that!Nice retort. It still adds numbers efficiently.
