C. Very up and down strategy wise, just seemed at times like we were doing things just to do them for no real reason defensively. Offensively I think after the first 20 minutes we found something.

I've been the GopherHoler most critical of Greg Harbaugh, but I have to give him credit today. He called the plays and made the drives needed to win without his 2 best running backs. Looks like he's doing an outstanding job of developing a Freshmen QB also.

The way Gopher teams win is by being player led during games. Our coaches recruit well, coach up well. Game planning OK. Game day on the field coaching? Subpar (can’t have everything). Same is true for many teams, really. We need the players to transcend coaching on game day. Today the player leaders took over. Good sign for the rest of the season.

The Team (coaches and players) gets a B

Slow start but they recovered and played really well after that.

Usually grade up a notch than the herd but went down a notch today from the central tendency with a C.

No doubt actually finding a way to win was an A effort. That we had to work so hard for it was a D or worse.

We can't spot teams from here on out 14 or more points before we get going. Not sure what is up with the Defense but we are not operating at the Kill-Claeys-Fleck level of play that I'd hoped we wouldn't have to worry about again. Little more lenient on the offense without Taylor or Turner with a kid QB but still not good.

The defense was an issue. Every time AK changed the play at the line they ran the ball. And we did not adjust. They had a ton of big chunk running plays after changing at the line. We never adjusted. Way too many long runs on third down they converted.

F. Not ready to play for a a quarter. The end of the first half was a master class in how to f’ up. It was Rutgers. Only plus to give is recognizing that passing was more effective.

B. Started poorly but they made adjustment and won the game so I give them credit for that. Still they need to do better moving forward.

I'm in the Corcoran area today visiting family. How can you be such a miserable shit after a win living in this nice area?

B

On offense they finally decided to ditch what wasn't working (the run game) and air the ball out. I don't think I've ever seen a Gophers game with a more lopsided pass to run ratio. But that's what we needed to do in order to move the ball (and something that should have been employed in the Cal game).

Defense was still a mess. Individual players made splash plays (particularly Kerry Brown.....and Smith is a wrecker)....but it's been a few years since I've seen a Gophers defense this exploitable. Guys out of position.....guys missing tackles.....not getting to the quarterback on blitzes.

Good lord they were lucky today. O line looks suspect and Danny Collins doesn’t look like he knows how to be a defensive coach. Didn’t help the refs gifted Rutgers 7points before the half. D+ from me.

First half, definitely an F.... Second half, a B. So feeling nice, I gave them a C for the whole game.

Defense made adjustments and improved as the game progressed. That has been the hallmark of Flecks defense, hope that happens again this year because there is a lot work to be done.

C.
Lots of bad, lots of good.

Lucky counts too. Without that bad Rutgers snap I think we probably lose.

Lot of people bagging on the D.....and that is understandable based on the start of the game where Rutgers was throwing the ball at will....but the D adjusted, ended the game with 7 sacks and held Rutgers to just 7 points in the second half while essentially eliminating the passing game.

Led to Rutgers having success on the ground but clearly a tradeoff the staff was willing to make. Kaliakmanis looked amazing in the first half, looked awful in the second half after the coaches changed philosophy.

Missed tackles have become an issue and the slow start was troubling but D deserves some credit for figuring things out and flipping the script which allowed the offense time to get the lead back.

First half I would give an F for not getting the QB under center and failing to gain a yard on two downs followed by a poor defensive effort leading to a TD before half. Second half I’ll give an A for putting the ball in Drakes hands leading to an impressive comeback victory!
