We gambled on some calls today on some big plays. What grade would you give the coaching staff today?

I gave them a D. Thought we played great in the first half up until the fake field goal. And then the 2nd half we looked terrible

Lot of bad calls today. Best was a field goal down 18 with 5 minutes to play. Followed closely by a fake field goal on 4th and 12 down only 7 points. Followed closely by draw plays for 2 yards on the last scoring drive down 18 with 6 minutes to play.

D... And that's generous. Just atrocious decisions.

And then hearing Jerry try to defend his 4th and 17 play call in the post game interview. I couldn't tell if I was watching stand up comedy or a pathetic excuse. I realize that one call didn't cost us the game, but that play call just took all the wind out of my sails along with the rest of the fans in the stadium.

Terrible, we reversed momentum on ourselves today with coaching decisions and calls.

I laughed to, especially when he said "just trying to get us to make a play" but then kick that field goal late in the game made no sense

Him essentially blaming the kicker for making a poor throw is where I lost it. What do you expect a kicker to do in that situation, throw a perfect strike? And trying to say that Nelson would have gotten the first down had it been a good throw.

No, he would have gotten 5 more yards. This isn't candy land, Jerry, where everything works out perfectly. The chances of that play working were about 10%. That is a horrible risk to take down 7 in a tight ball game.

I gave them a D, but why would you be upset about kicking a field goal late in the game? You're down three scores and you have to get points to make it a two score game. That was absolutely the right call is that situation.

Because he stated we couldn't keep up in the first half by kicking field goals but in crunch time kill decided we could make it a game by kicking field goals.

They had clearly chalked up a loss by that point, if not much earlier.

That was at the heart of the fake field goal decision; Kill doesn't believe that we can beat Michigan in any conventional fashion

I kind of feel kill and staff thought it was over when we didn't convert the fake field goal

I would also argue that to have any chance of coming back, we needed a touchdown and the momentum that would bring. While you are right that we needed the field goal, we also needed more momentum. Granted, we had about a 3% chance of winning at that point, but I still would have gone for it...

No grade, but Kill must have borrowed Pelini's crank supply the way he was going wild on the sidelines.

You ladies are precious. You think that we are that much further along this year to actually be able to beat Michigan! Just precious. I love you all for thinking so positively and reacting accordingly with a missive on the coaches.

The coaches had the team prepared. That was evident by the 1st quarter of play. What we don't have yet is depth of experience and depth of talent. That will take time. Go ahead, blame the coaches for pulling out all the stops after they were down by 14. Go ahead. Blame them for throwing all the plays and the kitchen sink into the mix. They did so because we are at least 2 years away from being competitive with Michigan. So, give it a rest. Enjoy the rest of Saturday and be ready for next week.

I enjoyed the play calling. It made the game more interesting and enjoyable.

Exhibit A of why we'll never win a Rose Bowl. We have fans that prefer games to be a circus rather than a well coached game.

You catch Michigan with a back up QB, who came out flat and lack a lot of big play talent outside of the injured Robinson we need our coaches to hit on all cylinders. Today, they may have prepared our team well and I might agree on that, but the game was winnable and our coaches didn't rise to the occassion.

You're obviously being sarcastic! Or you are going to defend kill while on your death bed. Not sure which is correct

Exactly. That's what bugged me so much about that and the early 4th down call. It just showed no confidence in the team that had started the game off with swagger.

Nobody can defend the fake field goal decision...at least with that particular play selection. The game went south when the quarterback scrambled for 7 seconds and heaved a 50 yard touchdown pass. It was 7 to 7 and while the score was close our psych was done. We seem to cave real easily each week. We are front runners. We get behind and we whimper. That's leadership. I'm sure Jerry has it Monday through Friday but there is a pattern of rolling over in games...youth or not. Mold the youth. I don't see that happening. Even the sideline reporter said all indications were we had given up in the third quarter. That trend needs to change for us to ever get good no matter how much we improve each week.

I would like to hear from someone who voted "B" to hear their reasoning.

Yes because Rose Bowls are determined by what fans want to see.

Who knew all it took was for us to change our attitudes? I have changed my mind and now prefer a well coached game. I expect a Rose Bowl next year.

If Kill thought it was over when we had a chance to cut the lead to four he doesn't deserve to have his job.

We were way too into the shenanigans. We were all for taking risks for stupid trick plays, but then were too conservative to simply put the ball in the air on first and second down, backing ourselves all too often into obvious pass downs. The team clearly was not focused, as evidenced by taking more false starts than the opponent while AT HOME. The staff needs to do something to have these guys' heads in the game. Also, going for the fake field goal in a tight game with that crazy shenanigan play on fourth and long but not later in the game on fourth and much shorter when we needed the touchdown more.
