I gave gim an A. He wasn't pretty throwing the ball, but he was decisive and made a lot of great plays that led to winning. I see why people said he might beat out Nelson. I think he's looked better through 2 games, but I'll trust the coaches on that one...

B+/A-

Wish he would complete higher % of passes but the more I watch this team the more I realize that we really have no WRs whatsoever.

Agree. I actually like Leidner as a passer, but our WRs aren't there right now. Hopefully the freshman (Jones, Wolitarsky, and Carter) can develop as the season goes on. Engel has some athletic ability as well, but neither he nor Maye can seem to get any separation.

I'll let the coaches decide whether or not there should be a QB controversy. It's just great to have 2 young guys who can lead the team.

PS--I gave him an "A."

B

Nothing flashy, but absolutely solid enough to lead the team. I am just glad that we have two very competent quarterbacks.

EDIT: Spelling is hard.

we need some playmakers on the outside... until there is a threat of a passing game he gets a b grade... no matter what else happens

Leidner will start next week. The team performed for him and Kill has said that if someone comes in for a starter's injury if that person performs real well, the starter has to earn his position back. I think Leidner has done that.

He played well enough to beat this SJSU, but it wasn't good enough to beat a solid Big Ten team. We need passers and receivers.

However, I think Leidner has some potential. He just needs to improve his accuracy.

Who was the media person that mentioned qb controversy before the opener and got blasted here for it?

I gave him a B.

A for running and ball security
C for passing, some of his throws were high or badly overthrown.

I would probably stick with Leidner next week even if Nelson is healthy as I think he is the better runner (both are good) and neither has done anything in the passing game to set them apart from each other to this point.

Agreed. On the quick pass to the wide receiver on the wings, Leidner would often throw a soft, floating ball, which allowed the d-back to close on the play. He needs to improve on those types of passes, but overall he did very well and I'm sure Limegrover and Kill are very happy with Leidner's performance today.

Solid performance but he didn't do anything we didn't expect. The O-line dominated this game and Leidner took advantage but to get my A grade he needed to show some ability to throw.

Marcus Fuller.

He should have been blasted. There wasn't a QB controversy, there still isn't.

However, there is a gigantic difference between saying there is a QB controversy and saying that "Leidner could play well at some time this season".

A. Mitch didn't turn the ball over. Played as well as could be expected in his first start.

A. He did a great job running the offense, and when he needed to make some throws he came through for the most part. The throw to Maye down the seam was huge. For a redshirt freshman making his first start against a quality opponent I have no idea how he has 3 "C" votes right now. Trolls.

I voted A I believe that he executed the game plan flawlessly.

I gave Mitch a B. He was in control of the team and ran the ball well. I couldn't give him an A because our passing game is just non-existent. I don't blame Leidner at all, we literally are without weapons in the passing game. He missed a couple passes (a swing pass and a pretty open guy on the first series). I realize it's nitpicky, it's just a small sample size throwing.

I think Nelson is still the QB. He is faster and a bit better of a thrower (in my opinion), but LEidner is certainly capable.

FR in his first start broke an all time record for most rushing TDs by a quarterback and came within 20 yards of the all time rushing total and we had a back go over 100 yards and score 2 TDs against the toughest team we have faced this year.

If you didn't give him an A you are a sucko!

We are grading Mitch's performance, not the passing game. Smart play and under control in his first start= A

My score exactly. His flat passes were too high. I would like to see Maxx get some throws his way. I think Leidner is better than Nelson. And I think eventually Streveler will be better than both

B+. A for his running. C for his passing. Factor in his doing a good job with on field management and not making any significant mistakes, the result is a B+ or maybe even an A-.

B...you can't miss the bubble screen twice. That's Weber-like.

Kill said post game that if Nelson is healthy that he will start. IMO that is the right call. PN>ML, but Mitch did GREAT today.

A

Don't have to have a great day throwing to earn an A. The outside runs on the read option in the first half were amazing. It looked like SJSU hadn't practiced for it.

He gets a solid A-. Did what was asked from him and more. Very impressive running the ball and didn't make a single mistake. Just wish he could have found his receivers 3 or 4 more times. Well done Mitch.

BTW.. The 2 knuckleheads who rated Liedner's performance a D should be banned and the 6 who rated a C be put on probation. Were you guys expecting 251 rushing and 11/12-250 yards passing for his first start? And San Jose State is a team on par with Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana and not their three previous opponents. The way he managed the game was brilliant. They had a more than 2 to 1 advantage in time of possession limiting Fales' opportunities to take control of the game. Were you expecting him to look like Manziel in last years A&M-Bama game? Get real. Also, props to the big guys up front. Perhaps the best OL in the B1G.

Gray was better then Weber. Shortell was better than Gray. Nelson was better than Shortell. Leidner is better than Nelson. Streveler will be better than Leidner. The next guy will be better than Streveler. I just hope that one of them becomes good enough that we don't need to look to the future before the current guy is washed up.
