Back on the band Wagon? If so, it should show with ticket sales against the Buckeyes

The casual fans that I know basically just think that it was a good win, but won't jump on any bandwagon till we beat OSU or Nebraska.

Which is unfortunate because there aren't any home games left. Ideally we win one of these last 3, the bowl game, and then carry over the momentum to have a close loss to TCU, start 5-1 and then have a hostile house for Nebraska & Michigan to get to 7-1 on our way to a 10-2 regular season and a west division title.

But now I'm just getting ahead of myself.

Causal fan is waiting on the outcome of the Nebraska game to decide whether to jump on the bandwagon.

After the Nebraska game? I find it hard to believe that if the Gophers knock off a top 10 Ohio State team a week after throttling Iowa that the casual fan won't jump on board.

Couldn't possibly care less what gets the casual fan on or off the wagon.

casual fan...still wondering who they beat this year...but that goes for pretty much all the top big teams--osu took care of biz, but who has MSU beaten this year--but we have not beaten anyone, neither has WI, NEB, IA, that is the state of big football this year

Your moniker should be "the chuckler". Any B1G win is a big win.

The casual fan will stay home Sat. with 10 degree weather. It will be tough to give away tickets and I would guess actual attendance won't his 45k.

The casual fan set the attendance record in 19 degree weather last year. Weather doesn't keep the casual fan at home. Program perception/game scenario does.

Casual fan thinks Iowa must have sucked. And we'll get blown out by Ohio St and why go when it is 0 degrees out.

My phone was blowing up with texts from these casual fans. On one hand, I get so annoyed because they were the people turning down free tickets to games...but on the other hand, we do need more fans.

I've noticed a lot of interest and people liking pics, sending messages, etc...but going to a game that's cold? Any buying tickets? The casual fans I know won't do that.

I, on the other hand, cannot wait for Saturday. Obviously, I really wanted a 2:30 game, but we'll be out there at 7am in the Ski U Mah lot, with heated tents, hot beverages, hot foot...and probably a flip cup table still set up in the cold, but adrenaline warms you up for that!

No, "causal" fan is sending telepathic messages to disrupt Urban Meyer's train of thought. He's also trying not to get run over by the bandwagon.

I love this! Most media types wouldn't think of it...though I'd be hesitant to try the hot foot.

The same "fans" who'll be asking you for free tickets this Saturday.

Ha! Food is only 2nd to hot foot ;). That's why I'm a fan for football games...too much fun to be had. For bball games, it's business when I am media (except for an occasional fist pump I can't hold back on ;).

Oh, they've been asking for a lot of free tickets...when I give them a deal for $25 or so, they decline. Ummm...that's 1/2 what I pay for games. No sympathy or effort to get them free tix.

The casual fan follows what we are doing from afar and wants us to win, but only will invest a major piece of time or money if we are either in a BT Championship game, winner take all reg. season finale, or Major Bowl.

I liken it to my situation:

I'm a casual fan of the Wild, Wolves, and Twins. I watch ZERO games of these teams in the regular season and spend zero dollars on these teams.

However, I check the standings from time to time, notice where they are at in the playoff race, and understand who their key players are and how the team is performing. I want the teams to win, but my life is busy and I simply don't have the time to follow all of these teams at the same time.

If they are having a good season, I will invest the time at the end to see how it plays out if they have a chance at the Championship. Example: I watched ALL of the Wild playoff games these last two years. I watched all of the Twins playoff games the years they made the post-season. If the team has a chance at a Championship in a playoff environment, I will pay attention. I'll also drop down some coin - I've purchased Twins playoff tickets in the past.

I truly believe the casual fan of the Gophers behaves like I do with the teams listed above. Here's the problem with College Football in pro markets. A pro market town inherently has many casual fans like myself that don't have the time to follow so many teams. The issue is, that unlike pro sports where nearly 50% of teams in the NBA, NHL, and NFL make the playoffs, once you get a loss or two in college football, you're basically done in terms of a Championship. Casual fans, thus, are also done.

I hear you. I have four season tickets. Of course, they turn down the free ones to non-conference games but somehow expect the same deal for games like IA or WI. When I have one or two available, I would rather eat them than give some mooching band wagon jumper a freebie.

can you really say that with a straight face---beating the likes of MD, RUT, PU, IU, NW, and this year UM and PSU prove nothing. Ohhh--I almost forgot another perennial waste..IL....oh wait..............

It's the same casual fan that was calling for on campus, outdoor football. When we were in the dome,
and the wife and I couldn't make a game ( not many though ) I would offer up some tickets to friends
and they would say:" Oh I hate the dome. If it was outdoors I would probably take them" You know, sometimes even with friends you'd like to tell them too piss off!

That's the Minnesota nice. They don't want to tell you to your face that they don't want to go so they make up an excuse, and then they make up a different excuse once the old one can't be used anymore because they don't want to hurt your feelings.

This tells you the relative value of Gopher football to the majority of the consumers here. $25 is too much to go watch the team play to most people.

They were nowhere near as bad as some of the "hard core" Gopher fans who demanded an on-campus stadium and then went ballistic when their tickets went up $25 to help pay for it.

Now, casual fans are very happy with the Iowa win and keep asking "if they can beat Ohio State?" Big difference from "Yeah, but the Buckeyes will slaughter them!"

I think this was a good one. Beat Wisconsin and I'll be elated.

I for one, don't care about the casual fan either, but I don't fault them. Let's win 2 of the last 3. That will undoubtedly point to a program that is past the point of a rise and has officially made it (something the casual fan can't deny). Personally, I'm happy with 1 out of 3 and a bowl win.

Record low at TCF was 41,062 for the 2012 Purdue game. We should be able to avoid setting a new record Saturday.
