On the surface, Minnesota might seem like an odd program to suggest Big Ten ouster. USC is 6-1-1 against the Golden Gophers all-time, including a 19-17 Trojans win in 2011. However, a trip to Minneapolis is a haul (1,932 miles), and Minnesota is freezing around the winter.

USC will play in Minneapolis on October 5, which is good. The temperature in the area was 63 degrees on October 5, 2023, and 73 degrees on the day in 2022. Temperatures inevitably drop before night game kickoffs, but anything above 50 degrees is manageable for Californians.

We hope Big Ten schedulers are as kind to the Trojans in future years. USC’s last 2024 regular season game outside the Pacific Time Zone is October 19 at Rutgers. We wonder if such a trend will remain in future years. If not, there’s potential for the Trojans to play the Gophers, in Minneapolis, in late-November.

Late-November in Minnesota often includes temperatures in the 30s. Such is not to imply USC football cannot hack a game in freezing temperatures. But we also won’t pretend like the cold doesn’t negatively impact a team from Los Angeles.

How about a rephrase - What 10 current teams should make up a true 10 team Big 10? I'd go with:

MN, IA, WI, NE, MI, OSU, IN, PSU, Purdue, MSU.

What would TV pick? Probably: USC, UCLA, Oregon, Wash, NE, OSU, MI, PSU, WI, IA. I could see IL or NW swapped for IA or UCLA for Chicago market.

John's guesses in order

1.Michigan State because it's unpredictable, a tough place to play and the only Big Ten school with a winning record against the Trojans.

2. Northwestern because it's a long flight, gets cold and "Booting Northwestern would have everything to do with trimming the fiscal fat."

3.Minnesota seemingly all about the distance and the potential cold.

4. Rutgers distance mainly. It's "2,788 miles. It would take Trojans fans one day and 14 hours to reach the Rutgers campus by car without stopping. Thankfully, USC football will travel to away games in New Jersey by plane.

Still, coast-to-coast travel to play a Big Ten bottom-dweller is not ideal."

5. Maryland "If given the option, we think the Maryland Terrapins would be the first program USC would oust from the Big Ten.

The distance between USC’s campus to Maryland’s is 2,673 miles. Indeed, Trojans will cross three time zones when they travel to games at the Terrapins’ home field. Such is not ideal for a Southern California school.

Nevertheless, USC will make the trip to Maryland ahead of their Saturday, October 19th matchup.

We’re sure Maryland isn’t looking forward to the long flight to Los Angeles, either. The Terps won’t make such a trip until the 2026 season. However, college basketball and baseball teams will soon find themselves inbound and outbound of both locations soon."

And then I would probably go USC, Washington, and oregon


Teams 6-7 are probably UCLA then Nebraska

Team 8 clearly Penn state

That would leave a pretty competitive, fun field with a more attainable conference championship.

I doubt that the fans or school gave any significant (if any at all) input.
