We're still on for today...

Seriously?

You don't care if we have a program that actually improves the lives of our players?

Just like my own college age son who is struggling somewhat with school. Each kid should be accountable for achieveing a degree. They are given a full ride and every possible assistance around scheduling and tutoring to help them do that. Whether they succeed in the classroom is on them. Whether they succeed on the field is what the new coach is responsible for.

Well, it's really more than just an absolute coincidence that certain coaches graduate players better than other coaches. I think certain coaches create an environment where graduating players is important and some coaches don't care at all, or else there really wouldn't be trends every single season with the same coaches. I completely understand that the players need to be responsible for graduating and getting their school work done, but to think that goal isn't cultivated on some campuses and diminished on others is naive.

For me, it's hard for me to root for a kid and watch him from when we started recruiting him at 17 yrs old and watch him until he is 22 and know that he left the U without a degree and he is bagging groceries somewhere.

Gotta believe that nothing will happen today. They will wait until all the LIVE shows are done and all the BCS interviews with UCONN as well. They don't want to take spotlight off UCONN's accomplishment. Leak will start late tonight possibly, Edsall will pull the rug out tomorrow, fly to MN and be announced Tuesday. Just my opinion.

Thank you. I don't watch Gopher football because of graduation rates, and neither do 99.9% of potential Gopher fans.

I could give a crap about graduation rates. Other than criminal acts, I could give a crap if the athletes act like other young adults off at college.

I care about watching a winning football team. So do most folks.

What an asinine comment. Did you ever stop to think that there is a correlation between grades and graduation rates? Higher graduation rates means you have fewer players ineligible to play, and thus the product on the field is closer to being fully maximized. I can't believe any of this actually had to be spelled out for some people, but apparently it does.

If we take Crazy Joe Davola's cryptic messages, Doogie's info that Edsall's agent said, "No comment" last night, the information that the new coach was likely coaching this weekend, and the academic record information above from the prominent booster, I would concur that it would sure seems like Edsall is the guy. I don't want to put pure speculation out there because I have absolutely no idea. Regardless, I'm going to have a hell of a lot of time on my hands come Tuesday or Wednesday. It's been a fun ride!

I never thought about playing second fiddle referring to one sport against another at his own schools. Second fiddle vs. UConn basketball must be about right.

Just to throw a grenade in the room, according to the pirate himself Texas Tech had a 79% graduation rate during Leach's tenure.

i like this grenade. if the other rumors are false and the coach didnt coach this weekend.....

sunday is your day then. Don't run into a wall on your way out.

I don't understand how you could watch these kids from the ages of 17 to 22 and not care at all if they succeed in life after they leave.

The only thing schools offer to these kids for all the revenue they generate is an education. Too many coaches forget they're in the employ of the school and act in ways that not only don't help kids graduate but are a direct detriment to their ability to succeed academically. Think coaches telling Robert Smith to skip tests for practice at Ohio State.

There's no reason the Gophers have to choose between a good coach and a good steward of these kids. There are plenty of candidates, Edsall included, that offer both.

You're welcome to your (minority) opinion.

I have mine. Of course the players have to be eligible, please don't intentionally confuse the issue. But at the end of the day, they've been given a free education, if they chose not to take advantage of that, I couldn't care less.

The CURRENT Gopher football team hasn't graduated it's players, either so please don't tell us its important. Do you really think that's what got Brewster fired, or think anybody really pays any attention to that?

You're not getting it. If you care about your football team being the best it can be, you care about graduation rates, regardless of what you think you believe. Period. This cannot be argued against.

(By the way, it's more than ironic that someone who references the U.S. Air Force in their handle claims to not care about education. If you really are/were in the USAF, you're an embarrassment to our armed forces.)
