Doesn't look like great things are happening tomorrow so I'll just look forward to what our new coaching staff can do with a whole year at the helm.
 

Hopefully there are indeed some sleepers in this class because it is pretty weak. When these players are seniors we may be looking at a down year. However, like everyone has said Kill didn't have the means to recruit the way that usually makes him successful at it. We also are not being portrayed very well around the country it seems.
 

best time of the year to recruit

I think they really need to plan better on when they are bringing players in. The best time is in the fall during the season. The worst time is in Jan. At least bring them in when there is a home basketball game. I like the idea of bringing in East coast players who have some skills but wouldn't be shocked by a cold front.
 

I guess I don't see this class as being bad. Were folks expecting better with the coaching change and a 3-win season? Only 3 of the recruits are 2* guys. Needs were addressed. No need to be disappointed on this one.

I'm with you. Its a transition class that I think will serve us well. Got a couple nice WRs. Got a bunch of OL we can develop and we got one he!! of a QB. A perfect HB fit in Kill's system. A couple nice looking LBs and a pretty highly regarded corner in Monty. I'm not at all disappointed in the class and look for him to improve on next years.
 

What a bunch of Debbie Downers. What did you expect from a coach in 1 1/2 months? He will stay true to himself and his staff. I still have confidence that this class will overachieve and be a great foundation. Again his first year in the MAC he had the #11 class and was top three this past year. We will be fine.
 

Not sure what to make of this class. It doesn't appear all that strong, but I think when it's all said and done, Tommy Olson is going to be the best recruit from the Brewster years.
 

Would have been nice to land Estime and Carter, but I'd rather be a little down this year (if indeed we are truly down) instead of bringing in some stretches like Harold Howell.

Kill's already working on 2012. Looks like one of Minnesota's strongest (or at least deepest) classes in years will be available next year and Kill appears to be already recruiting aggressively.

This isn't a great class but it shouldn't set us back at all. I mean, this is a class that the vast majority of the group are three star guys and most of these guys will be able to come in and RS. The 2007 class had a majority of 2star kids. However, even a class like that won't neccesarily kill you (if it is the kids fit) if you are able to develop them. For instance, that 2007 class lost 14 of the 24 guys, 3 of the guys who played through their eligibility were JuCo, and 4 of the remaining 7 players had to play immedietly. That class started out bad (through rankings), but what made it so atrocious was the attrition and inability to RS.

This class could still be a decent class if we are able to retain the vast majority of these recruits and develop them for 5 years.
 

I like Coach Kill's 300m recruiting area strategy to fill the bulk of his recruiting. Get kids in your backyard that want to play closer to home and then get the rest from the large warm belt (FLA-GA-AL-LA-TX) recruiting areas. There is a lot recruits from these areas have to worry about. Academic pressures, adjustment pressures, pressure from high expectations. Then, there are the temptations that will get them in trouble. They are far away from home from family support. Weather is the least of their worries. At this point, going to a cold weather school with a 3-9 record is a tough sell. It will change in three years. Give Coach Kill some time to get his mojo working starting with 2012.

Thanks for that research. I was trying to recall how it all played out and the cold hard facts are even worse than I remembered. Brewster really ramped up the energy, but his approach was so scattershot when he got the job that so much of the initial excitement he generated that first "half class" didn't yield much in terms of lasting effect.

This is a decent class and looks to have a good foundation that can develop. Let's get them red-shirted and keep them here for all five years.
 



I have a hunch we will eventualy see January evenings on the Gopher Hole where people are saying: "Don't worry about it. Kill knows what he's doing."

Yet the players from those groups went 11-2 last season and finished tied for eighth in the final USA TODAY Coaches Poll after losing the Rose Bowl by two points to unbeaten TCU. Coaching! Coaching! Coaching!
