Week 7 Other Games Thread

wisconsin is very likely to finish 0-9 in the Big Ten if they don't win the Axe

Auburn just got screwed. Looked clear they had a TD but ruled a fumble and recovery by Georgia. Should be 17-0.

Fair. Still he's building a team through the portal and has had the benefit of the weakest schedule in the conference. NIL is also a couple notches higher than Minnesota also.
He might take Indiana…INDIFUCKINGANA to two straight College Football Playoffs in his first two years as coach there. How can you hate on him?

None of us have any idea what the actual NiL numbers are.
It has been reported that Indiana's NIL funds are nearly double Minnesota's. Regardless if that's accurate or not, I don't know what the color the sky is your world if you think Minnesota is anywhere close to Indiana in money terms.

So, for the record, im now hearing the argument that Indiana Hoosiers football as at a structural advantage over us that makes us unfairly stuck on a lower tier?

What is your proof that is the driver of their success? He turned the program around last year, with kids from his previous school JMU. They wouldn’t have cost much money.

Where did I say that? I'm pointing out that Cignetti has some built in advantages to attracting better talent than PJ does. I don't know enough about him to judge him personally.

I actually didn't realize how bad Indiana was before Cignetti. Only 8 bowl games since 1991. And they haven't won since 1991.

Even more impressive to see where they are now.

Had had no built in advantages when he started, he was a successful coach at a lower level that brought a ton of players up with him, same as PJ with Morgan. It wasn’t money that made the difference.

Serious question, do you think Indiana's season last year was any different than PJ's 2019 season? They had a better record, but their best win was against a mediocre Michigan team. They didn't beat anyone that the 2019 Gophers wouldn't beat. They got the breaks last year. To Indiana's credit, they made their team better this year and are competitive. If you don't think money had something to do with the success, you're kidding yourself.

Indiana in 2023 under Allen 1-8 in the Big Ten
Indiana in 2024 with Cignetti 8-1 in the Big Ten
Gophers in 2016 with Claeys 5-4
Gophers in 2017 with Fleck 2-7
Cignetti turned it around with coaching, his players followed him for a better opportunity, not money, and they were well coached. PJ has somehow found a way to have better players here, as evidenced by more players making a difference in the NFL, while also having terribly coached teams. His coaching staff is always a mess, no one sticks with him other than Simon who he refuses to promote. You don’t think that’s weird?

Got it! In your mind, Indiana being in a better NIL position has nothing to do with their success this year. We could just trade coaches and Minnesota would be contending for a CFP spot right now. You convinced me and I see the light. Enjoy the rest of the Gophers game.

So Cignetti and staff have zero to do with their record. It's all some nebulous NIL number you can't even prove.
You convinced me. I see the light.

With Cook Medical, Mark Cuban, Eli Lilly, and the Simon Mall/Real Estate empire, Indiana's NIL is well funded.

I don’t know about Indiana, but yes for the record, some programs have invested and continue to invest much more money into their football teams than we do. This is a well known fact.

Not the same as PJ with Morgan. PJ brought recruits with him, not ready to play All American type players that could play immediately.

That money had liitle to do with Cignetti taking the program from 1-8 to 8-1 in “year zero”. Give the coach credit
Give the softest schedule in America credit.

There were at least 7 teams that would have gone 8-1 last year with their schedule, including the Gophers.

No one sticks around because other people offer them more money.
