Wolverines Wire first out of the gate:

7. Minnesota

Record: 3-3

Hi/Lo: 7/15

Change: +7

Last game: Win vs. USC, 24-17

Biggest win: vs. Rhode Island, 48-0

Who would have thought this one up in the preseason? Minnesota got its mojo back — defensively and through its run game. It made the usually stellar-looking Miller Moss look pedestrian and it eked out a win against the No. 11 team in the country. This is a building block especially as Max Brosmer scored three TDs on the ground but didn’t throw as well as he did against Michigan.

Go Gophers!!

Badgers Wire chimes in:

11. Minnesota

Week 6 Result: 24-17 win over USC

Previous Rank: No. 12 (Up 1)

Analysis: Minnesota is one of those risers. It notched a critical win over USC on Saturday night thanks to an impressive 14-0 fourth-quarter surge. The result may mean more about the state of the Trojans. But it was clear that Minnesota was better than its 2-3 record entering the contest. The Gophers are closer to the middle of the pack than the bottom.

Also, this notches a big win for the ‘old-school Big Ten’ against the top group of newcomers.

Go Gophers!!

Ducks Wire chimes in:

10. Minnesota

Game Result: W 24-17 against USC

Previous Ranking: 13th

AP Poll: Not Ranked

What’s Next?: at UCLA

Analysis: Minnesota upset the Trojans in spectacular fashion on Saturday evening, showing they are not the same team that lost to North Carolina in early September. The Golden Gophers have work to do to qualify for a bowl game, but they are capable.

Go Gophers!!

Nittany Lions Wire chimes in:

13. Minnesota

Last week: 15

Week 6 result: Won vs. USC, 24-17

The Gophers came from behind with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to stun USC on Saturday night. This was a much-needed win and P.J.. Fleck’s goal-line gamble ultimately paid off, thanks to the help of an instant replay review.

Up next: at UCLA

I appreciate the generous team ranking from the Michigan blogger but I disagree that Brosmer didn't throw as well against USC as he did against Michigan. He just didn't throw as often as he did against Michigan due to the effectiveness of the run game against USC.
