Week 6 Big Ten Power Rankings Thread

Illini Inquirer chimes in:

7) Minnesota (4-1, 1-1 B1G) — Last week: 7

Following last week’s disappointing loss to Purdue, Minnesota had an off week to prepare for a monster Big Ten West matchup. Most importantly, that gave Mohamed Ibrahim an extra week of rest.

Next: at Illinois, 11 a.m. Saturday

Buckeyes Wire chimes in:

5. Minnesota

Minnesota didn’t play this week but still moves up because of Maryland’s woes. We have to remember the Golden Gophers were without running back Mohamed Ibrahim in their only loss of the season to Purdue, but we also can’t ignore the result.

This team might still be the class of the West if it can stay healthy, and the game next week against Illinois is a battle for first place. We’ll know a lot more about both teams after that result.

Victory Bell Rings chimes in:

5. Minnesota (4-1, 1-1) Last week: 5

Minnesota was off this week, and it came at the perfect time as the Gophers work to get running back Mohamed Ibrahim back. His absence resulted in a 20-10 loss to Purdue. They will need him this week as the Gophers prepare for a huge matchup with Illinois that will have massive implications on the West division title battle.

Go Gophers!!

Nittany Lions Wire chimes in:

6. Minnesota

Last game: Lost to Purdue, 20-10 (Week 5)

Last week: 7

Minnesota had a week off to try and recover from their last outing, a loss at home to Purdue. It is probably safe to suggest Minnesota still will play a leading role in how the Big Ten West is won, but next week’s surprisingly important game will help dictate that outlook.

Next game: at Illinois

Yahoo Sports chimes in:

7. Minnesota

Record: 4-1 (1-1 in Big Ten)

This week’s result: Bye

Next game: at Illinois (Oct. 15)

Minnesota was off this week and will look to bounce back next week against Illinois. This matchup with the Fighting Illini will go a long way in deciding the Big Ten West Division race this fall.

Go Gophers!!

Spartan Nation chimes in:

7.) Minnesota

Last Week: 6
Week 6 result: Bye Week
Record: 4-1
Comments: The Golden Gophers had an extra week to dwell on their first loss of the season, and I can imagine they're ready to get back on the field. Minnesota faces a better-than-expected opponent in their return to action, as they travel to newly-ranked No. 24 Illinois in Week 7. This is a vitally important game in the Big Ten West race, and a loss here might drop the Golden Gophers out of contention for their first division title.

Go Gophers!!

Noel chimes in:

6. Minnesota (4-1)
Last Week’s Spot: #7
Minnesota will get their star running back in Mo Ibrahaim, according to coach P.J. Fleck. The Gophers got an extra week to prepare for a tough game at Illinois, which will feature two of the best running backs in the Big Ten.

Next stop: Illinois.

Go Gophers!!
