Max Grand, Maverick Baranowski and Elijah Spencer receive weekly honor
University of Minnesota football coach P.J. Fleck announced the team's Nektons of the Week today. The Gophers just completed their fifth week of offseason workouts and Max Grand (offensive), Maverick Baranowski (defensive) and Elijah Spencer (newcomer) received the weekly honors.

Grand redshirted after playing in two games last season. He rushed six times for 12 yards and saw action against New Mexico State and Western Illinois. Grand carried the ball three times for 10 yards against New Mexico State and gained two yards on three carries versus Western Illinois.

Baranowski redshirted after competing in four games last year. He saw most of his action on special teams and made one tackle during the season. Baranowski played against Illinois, Nebraska and Iowa and made his lone tackle in the bowl game against Syracuse.

Spencer enrolled at Minnesota in January 2023 after two seasons at Charlotte. He has two seasons of playing eligibility remaining with the Gophers. At Charlotte, he made 85 catches for 1,324 yards and 15 touchdowns. In 2022, Spencer hauled in 57 catches for 943 yards and nine touchdowns and was named All-Conference Honorable Mention. In 2021, he recorded 28 receptions for 381 yards and six touchdowns and was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year and was a member of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.

Per 247, Baranowski may be #2 in depth chart behind Selig.

Sounds like Devon Williams and Joey Gerlach will be competing for spot Wills was slotted for at Sam LB.

Some nice opportunities for some playing time at linebacker.
