Week 2 AP Poll

Fair enough.

If the Gophers got say 33 votes in the poll would you feel the same way?

I don’t really think the amount of votes in the poll effect recruiting for MN. But that’s just my opinion. What was our ranking for 2020 or 2021 recruiting? That would have been impacted by our very good 2019 season.
The original and continued point was frustration over likely lesser teams appearing in the "also receiving votes" sections of the coaches and AP polls while the Gophers never seem to get a break there.

Do the Gophers deserve to currently be ranked? Maybe, maybe NOT. But totally missing from the ranking votes while teams they likely would be favored over are there is very much a reasonable question to ask in my opinion.

And yes, I do feel that chronically being snubbed from the rankings and not even appearing in the others receiving votes section DOES adversely affect recruiting. That is, unless kids no longer care if their games are highlighted on sportscenter or appear in the most watched TV slots. If that still doesn't make sense to you, instead of asking "what was our ranking for 2020 or 2021 recruiting" -consider asking that question in the form of what would it have been WITHOUT 2019, and how much better could 2020 and 2021 recruiting have been if the team had been ranked earlier in 2019. It took a while. While asking that, ask what student section attendance would be now without 2019, or ask would Koi Perich and Roman Voss be in the family if it were not for 2019, and who else would have come if the Gophers had been on the national radar earlier in 2019?

Again, these are all fair points. Maybe they would be here maybe they wouldn’t who knows. Koi would have been 14 or 15 years old in 2019. I’m not sure his birthdate. That is an impressionable age for sure. I don’t think the gophers, recruiting rankings jumped up significantly after the one really good year. Maybe I am wrong? Or did it jump up a lot after their nine wins seasons? I’m not saying there isn’t lots of faults in early season polls. I personally think they are stupid. I just think that the poor gopher attitude gets old after a while. Like I said before I believe in PJ and think he is a very good coach and we just have to consistently do it on the field.

And for the record, I think the gophers do deserve to be somewhere between 30th and 40th in the country currently.

Votes obviously means we are closer to being ranked, being ranked is good for recruiting, being ranked consistently is great for recruiting. The 2019 season might not have moved the needle nationwide for recruits a whole lot, but seems like it helped with instate recruiting. Also Drake Lindsey was quoted as saying that season put us on his radar.
