Week 1 Other Games Thread

So far my call that Arch Manning will be a 3rd day draft pick by the time it’s all said and done looks good.

He’s a 3 star talent who would be at Tulane or something if he last name was Smith

Seeing some social media comments on the uncle Rico meme; TX fans still worried he’ll declare early

It’s early days but…probably don’t need to worry, guys

What does last season have to do with this one? Close losses to good teams and Vandy. Did you watch Florida St today? Did you watch Texas and Ohio St today? All of them are top 10. Alabama was not ranked in the top 5 so ranked 8 is appropriate. Perhaps they are playing quality opponents. Who impresses you? Iowa St who would get crushed by the Tide but hope they beat Iowa next week. Indiana would lose to Bama and probably Illinois? Everyone complaining about rankings put out your own.

Florida St and Utah. Who else impressed today? It’s week 1. In the words of Mike Tice Calm down.
Me calm down? I’ve made one post in regards to Alabama’s ranking while you have made more than I want to count.

Todays rankings are largely based on last years results, and I’m simply saying that not only do I think Bama was ranked too high, I do not think that any team, regardless of the competition, who goes 5-5 in their last ten should be ranked at all.

Calm down.

South Carolina QB Sellars is fun to watch.

Currently early in the game on ESPN

edit: and it’s so weird to hear the ESPN announcers overhype the SEC players, you never hear them do that

I think Arch Manning is going to win the Heisman this year. The only flaw I see in his game is he has trouble completing a forward pass.
You think? This year? You’re kidding, right?

Of course he wins it. The only question is whether he gets granted a 5th year of eligibility, wins his 5th Heisman, and how soon after they rename the award after him.

The "only flaw I see" statement makes me think Gopher Mac is in fact kidding

Just watched some Cal tape. It’s really tough to tell what to make of that team but I’m significantly more nervous than I was before. Is ORST really just that bad? Does Cal have a run game or did they just choose not to? Can they play D? Is there a WR1 or does it even matter?

Thank goodness PJ and DC are smarter than me.
Yes, I live in the East Bay so I'd heard allot about the 5* QB from Hawaii. Heard allot of what happened at the end of last year and why they lost ALL of their offensive skill players including their QB Fernando Mendoza (starting for Indiana, and who was blamed for changing the Hawaii QB's choice from Cal to Oregon after a phone conversation last December, who then changed again back to Cal).

Yes, the announcers were falling over themselves fawning at this guy. Now, I thought that Lindsey, as I told my dad after Thursday's game, was the most pure passing QB I've ever seen for the Gophers and that was his first game! I will say, the Cal QB looked even better and was silky smooth and knew when to run and when to pass. They went away from the pass once they got the lead but when he was needing to pass, he easily was able to do so.

That game on 9/13, which I thought was going to be a close win for the gophers now becomes a tossup and the QB who has the best game will win that game. The QB's do have similar issues in that there weren't any receivers who stood out for either team and in fact the Cal QB threw for 3 TD's and had 2 other long bombs that were great passes dropped by his receivers so his line could have been so much better than it was.. going to be a very interesting game now!!

Sc coach makes Pj looks like calm and collected

Neither team has a qb who is comfortable with the concept of the forward pass
What? This announcing crew called Sellers the best QB in the country and a separate time called him the probable first pick in the draft.

They also said Dylan Stewart (#6 edge) was working his way to be a top 5 pick this draft. BTW, Stewart is class of 2024 and ineligible to be drafted until after next season.

Well you see listening to anything that espn says or publishes was the first mistake.

Cal lost a ton of RB to transfer so good chance their running game is going to struggle. Definitely think our defense is better then Oregon State's but the Cal game is going to be a tough one, especially on the road.

After losing to tOSU ... Texas sits atop ESPN's College Football Power Index:

Guess Quality Loss > Quality Win vs .... #1 in the FPI ...

And Florida State is at #40 while Alabama is still at #13.

Well you see it wasn’t a quality win because they’re just the #1 team in the FPI and it just means more

Did I do that right?

Of note, Gophers moved down by 9 by winning. UNLV moved down by 9 by winning twice

And Buffalo moved up 9, weird

Tonight’s game brings up fond memories of Notre Dame’s game at Miami in 1989. The venom directed at the Irish by the Hurricane fans that night was wonderful. And you knew it was Miami’s game when they completed a pass for a first down on third and 42.

We’ll see against a real DI defense.

I gotta know, Danville, PA? Cause I have a former roomate Gopher who's from Danville, PA, if so what're the odds.
