2007, 57%; 2008, 62%; 2009, 52%; 2010 56%. Threw a lot and had to run a lot, too, especially as a freshman. His percentages were somewhat better than Leidner's.

That's sad. Weber was my least favorite gopher since Corey Sauter...
 

Weber was asked to do a world more than Leidner is asked. The stats arent really comparable.

Most of Weber's rushing was as a freshman in 2007, when he rushed for 617 yards. I don't have his career rushing yards available, but 5th place for QB rushing for the Gophers is Abdul-Khaliq with 1156, so Weber couldn't have rushed for any more that 538 yards in his final three seasons.

fuzzy memory, but didn't Weber sustain a bad high ankle sprain sophomore year and was never quite the same after that?

In his 5 years here Weber played for 3 different head coaches, 5 different offensive coordinators and had 3 different offensive systems. Poor guy never had a chance.
 




Weber came at an unfortunate time. He was a good quarterback who was stuck in a circus. It would have been nice to
see what he could have done had he been able to run Mason's offense for four years, as he was recruited to do. I think
we would be looking back at the Weber years in a totally different light.

Adam Weber's progressions:

1) Give Decker 3 seconds to get open/give other receivers 3 seconds to complete their blocks for Decker.
2) If Decker is covered, throw to him.
3) If Decker is double covered, throw to him.
4) If Decker is triple covered, throw it higher so he can jump to it but still throw to him.
5) If Decker was punched in the throat, tripped and beaten to the ground then tuck the ball and run.

Agree, he was subjected to alot during his time here.

Wins-
2007- 1-11 (0-8 Big Ten)
2008-7-6 (3-5 Big Ten)
2009- 6-7 (3-5 Big Ten)
2010- 3-9 (2-6 Big Ten)



Bobby Bell won a National Championship was a 2 time All American.

I am not accusing DougMN of this, but I feel that there is a significant amount of our fanbase that will use this argument constantly against Weber, and then turn around and rip Leidner for bad stats, even though he is succeeding with the "stat that really matters".

In 2010, without Decker:

4th most passing yards in a season.
3rd most passing TD in a season.
12th most passing yards in a game vs. Northern Illinois.
10th highest pass efficiency for a season.
2nd most passing yards for a senior, 140 behind Cupito.
2nd most passing TD for a senior, 2 behind Cupito.

So, you can't just say his stats are purely due to longevity, nor can you say they were purely due to Decker.

That's baloney. You can evaluate a QB without looking at wins. Peyton Manning wouldn't have won games behind some of Mason's defenses, there are way to many aspects to football for a win to be placed on any one position or player (coaches are another story).

Agree that there is so much more to it than win loss record when evaluating an individual player in football. If you gave me the choice of Weber or Leidner at the same point in their college careers I would take Weber in a heartbeat.

At the same point in their careers, Weber is probably twice the QB that Leidner is. I'd love to see what this team would do/have done last year and this year with Weber under center.

You can absolutely say that most of his stats are due to longevity.

Adam Weber was/is a great Gopher Ambassador. He endured so much crap and bad luck while he was here and did it with class and style. However, you should go back and read this board's thoughts on him while he was playing. Truth be told, Weber and Liedner were/are similar in that neither was/is great (MSU Halloween game aside) or terrible. Think average.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the way folks tend to look back on players as being better than they were. I may not give AW8 enough credit, but some look back at him like he was something special. It isn't quite as bad as the "Just imagine what we could do if DCT was still on this team" posts from a few years back, but reality still has been skewed a lot, IMO.

I'd take Leidner. I remember all the folks here who talked about what a great pro career Weber would have and laughed at me when I said he'd never start a game and likely wouldn't throw a pass in the league. Which he didn't. Heck, ML7 has a shot as a tight end. If he can get a lot faster...
