Just a note on offensive style. UNLV wants to run a quick tempo, spread attack. They want to be able to just outscore you. This leads to quick scores and putting the defense back on the field with the hope they can turn it back to the offense. The Gophers are a ball control clock eating downhill rushing team. They want to control the ball, the clock, the score and punish the defense. They want consistent drives which give their own defense time to recover. Our defense is built to stop the run. And pressure the QB with the front 4. With a spread attack nickel or dime coverage. Throwing into zone or combination coverage needs to be precise in routes and throwing. The defense needs to turn UNLV over. Interceptions, fumble recovery, and three and outs. The Gopher plan is pointed at becoming a program. UNLV is searching for something that works.
