Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Michigan St and Nebraska on the road seem like mark it down losses for Iowa to me?
2 wins in their last 9 games. They just lost to a short handed NW in a winner take all by 9.
They lost to the Gophers at home in Iowa. Not seeing the victory.
Agreed the likelihood of another Hawkeye win is low but not impossible. We’re talking about the Gophers getting something out of that, so it might happen that nebrchooses to lay an egg.

Opportunity knocks in LIncoln this afternoon for the Gophers. Can they knock down the door? Let's try not backing into the Big Ten Tournament via the backdoor.

Pinnacle needs to be exorcised. Do the Gophers have enough to stop Huskers dominating guys who take it to the basket?

Iowa, I do believe clinched a spot in the bottom 3. Gophers seem unlikely to fall to the bottom even with all losses. ?
Decent chance we could lose all 3 and not be in the bottom 3 but if we can just manage to scrape out one win we should be 100% clear of the bottom group.

I would prefer not to risk it.

Yep...Nebraska and Rutgers are both very beatable if, and it's a big if, we play well. Hopefully we get that 1 win so that we don't have to sweat whether or not we are going to avoid missing the BTT.

I think the following is required for the Gophers to miss the BTT:

1. Gophers lose to Wisconsin
2. Gophers lose to Rutgers
3. Nebraska beats OSU
4. Iowa beats MSU
5. Iowa beats Nebraska
6. USC beats Washington
7. USC beats UCLA

Gophers finish 16th, just below Iowa/Rutgers/USC/Nebraska/NW logjam

No way is Iowa winning another game.

Of course I don't think we will either.

At this point, if we miss the BTT I will be shocked. Washington and Penn State are guaranteed to finish below us and we have a head to head tie breaker advantage over both Iowa and USC.

But this season has been so crazy at this point I wouldn't rule anything out. :)

The logjam for the final spot. ...

Rutgers and Nebraska both 7-10, Northwestern, Gophers, USC, and Iowa all 6-11. I must say, I like that there's some drama at the bottom of standings. Before the season started I wouldn't have said that. I'm now convinced there's no need for an 18-team tournament.

Penn State and Washington must win out to have a chance.

I’d take the rematch against the Cats.

I tried to figure out tiebreaker and it’s impossible. Winning percentage against teams that are tied. Not sure if there has to be a minimum number of games or not.

Rutgers could be a pivotal game that impacts seeding by several spots.

I believe with Nebraska's loss last night and knowing the Cornhuskers face Iowa head-to-head this weekend, the Gophers have clinched a spot in the Big Ten Tournament. The Iowa-Nebraska loser will have to fight it out with USC, Rutgers and Northwestern for the final elimination spot.

Yep, we should be safe, could end up seeded in any number of spots but we should be in the top 15 at the very least.

Driving 200 miles on Sunday morning to Piscataway. I'll be cheering for all GHers.

Awesome! Thanks for repping us! Never been to the RAC but have sat near Rutgers people at tournaments and in general an amiable lot. Losing helps humility for most of us, I think.

Can Iowa throw itself into the mix with a win over MSU? If they do, we'll have a 6-way tie for 11th place on Friday morning.

So what happens in the more likely case that Iowa loses to Sparty and then perhaps beats Nebraska? My read suggests maybe 6 teams possibly at 7-13. Winner of Gophers Rutgers game gets a leg up on the rest while a labrynth of tiebreaker scenario gets rolling.

In that case, a USC loss to UCLA and a Gophers loss to Rutgers should put 5 teams at 7-13 (Gophers, Nebraska, Iowa, USC, NW), with Rutgers a game ahead of the mess. Gophers should actually be on top of that logjam because the tiebreaker is a round robin record, and the victories over USC/Iowa/Nebraska would be sufficient to earn the 12 seed

Thanks for the analysis. I’ll trust you’re correct. This means so much to the media that I have not seen any what if scenarios anywhere but this board.

This will answer all of your questions...punch in the outcomes, it spits you the seedings.

Fun to mess with. Enjoy.

Thanks. Very helpful. According to my most likely outcomes, Gophers have a decent chance to be 12th seed, even if losing to Rutgers. Biggest question mark is Iowa Nebraska. I think.

Yeah we are in the tourney for sure.

Question is will we be the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, or 15th seed.

USC, NW, IA, NEB, RUT also fighting for same real estate.

Tweet says:
"Assuming that Michigan State defeats Iowa tonight and UCLA defeats USC on Saturday, Sunday's Iowa at Nebraska game will be a play-in for the final spot in the B1G Tournament.Yes -- Nebraska -- a team that was in the field for most just 2 weeks ago, may not go to the B1G in Indy!"

Two weeks ago? Most had Nebraska in the NCAA field as recently as tip off against the Gophers five days ago. Heck, some still had them in the NCAA field heading into their Ohio State game just two days ago.
