We need someone posting from the scrimmage

Lender had better not get hurt. His back up will be Roden-McKinzy

Not surprising, but it sounds like the offense is really struggling.

Team looks a lot crisper. Offense looked pretty good. Leidner improved. Offensive. line looked good

Afraid of defensive line getting rolled when playing big boys. Db as good as advertised.

#37 Parks just had a nice run.

There are some good, athletic linebackers in the pipeline. Roden-McKinzy looked like the game was not too fast for him. He was cool under pressure. 2nd and 3rd offensive lines had problems protecting. Reasons for optmism.

Liedner looked solid, Streveler was not very good. Melvin Holland had a nice 20 catch with the third strings from Perra which was really the highlight of the day for me. Mortell looked really good and got the biggest applause of the day. Santoso looked solid. Craig James is a hitter. Rodney Smith looked better than Berkley from what i saw.

No TDs from first or 2nd string Os. Start the "it is vanilla O", "common for D to be ahead at this time", and other denial rants now.

Would love to hear others' take on ML7. The general theme I hear is Spring Game part II. I'm getting worried about my 10-2 prediction... I thought the O would be more unlike last year than like last year....

Derrick Wells picked off Liedner in the end zone and returned it 30 yards or so. Campbell should have picked off Liedner as well.

We have one heck of a defense, solid and deep. Richardson and James will definately burn their red shirts. If Leidner gets hurt we're in trouble in the passing game. Josh Parks and Rodney Smith looked good in the run game.

I thought that Liedner was more accurate today but what should have been two interceptions worry me. Streveler reminded me of Liedner last year, maybe a little slipperier, with a weaker arm.

Homer Alert: If our secondary is really that good, then we should expect a few interceptions.

Pollyanna!!!

Very possible - Streveler doesn't look like B10 caliber QB

#24 looked decent with 2's at RB

Jones has some serious juice as a returner

Cockran ate up the o-line during two minute drills. Either we will do a great job rushing the passer or our pass protection needs work.

I don't think it's necessarily an either-or.

I also agree that R. Smith and Perra were solid as stated, but lets remember they played against the 3rd string d for the most part. I don't even think that I ever saw Eckpe( the DT) or Botochilie in the middle at all today. It was a trial by fire for the freshman (redshirt too) during the scrimmage, they were playing in against all the different O lineman. Freshman Richardson at DT can really penetrate and get leverage, Peppers has great size as a RsFr, no DE stood out, and Legania just looks too easily winded to ever see much rotation. So essentially R. Smith was running against our worst unit and it was clear that the CB's covering the 3rd string WR's were not nearly as polished in staying with their man as the first 2 units. Leidner and Strevleor both had very little room to throw, but at least Leidner was hitting the WR's hands, where Strevlor was not even in the same area much of the time.

1st and 2nd DB's did look solid, but once again our Passing Offense is one of the worst in the Big Ten right now.

Great posts. Keep em coming for us sorry souls that couldn't attend.

I thought the first team O moved the ball well and given the chance to open the book up and have more available to them they will be fine (as with everyone else if Mitch goes down we are in for a long long long season)

the Defense was outstanding and will help win a few games this year. they will have more TO's this year and might house a few. The DB's are the real deal and hopefully they are one of the toughest Mitch will face during the year.

there are reasons to have a couple of soft games first couple of weeks. hopefully we can put the teams away early to give more guys chances to play at game speed.

2nd o unit was a little sluggish but they were going against the defense 1.A's guys that see some playing time and are very solid. that should give them some things to work on.

Banham ran very well again. not sure why he doesnt get a look in a game once in a while. understanding that his size will not keep him healthy but the kid has great vision and is fast.

I would hold off on the 10-2 talk as i will be happy to get the 6 wins to go to a bowl

Also Lauer was wearing an orange jersey and Campion played at LT with Pirsig at RT.

Pirsig looked huge today. He has to see the field.

Overall, I thought both sides played well. Passing game still needs work. I have a feeling one or two of the freshmen WR's see some playing time this year.

PiPress: Defense controls offense in team scrimmage

A couple thousand fans came out to TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday to see the Gophers show some signs of the team that had an impressive eight-win season last year.

The defense definitely gave the crowd a taste of how strong it could be in the secondary.

And it didn't take long.

Go Gophers!!
