I took the day off, and both kids had play dates, so I re-watched the entire game (sober). We have a lot of young players that are going to be stars. Two specifically are Eric Murray and Maxx Williams. Murray was stout every time the ball was thrown his way. Williams was a beast blocking, open often, and threw the key block on the K/O return. BEAST. An earlier poster (Oglethorpe?) alluded to the number of players played and he was dead on. Most of UNLV's big plays happened against our 2's. Building for the future, my friends.

But the sky is falling!!!!

I agree. I spend most my time on the basketball side of the house where doom and gloom the past several years was the norm, so I was shocked how negative this board was last night. I hope I don't have to stay away after games like I do on the basketball board.

Agree, when people talk about potential all big ten types, Max has to be at the top of the futures list. He is young but still dominated his guy and got on guys 5-8 yards off the line and held the blocks. His feet are awesome and he is just going to get stronger. If he continues to progress I predict all american before he is done...he has the skills and size.

And hands as well! Very nice catch to end the first half.

Good thread. Max looked great and I think Murray may be our best CB (even when Wells is back).

Gotta think his NFL stock is highest on team outside o Hageman. Reminds me of a Shockey type build and frame.

De'vondre Campbell was everywhere. He is going to be really good too and he has 3 years left!!

Good pt I wouldn't be surprised if wells plays some safety this year with the play of Boddy. Wells might have trouble getting back starting if out awhile with the play of Murray and boddy

The sky is not falling. However, we are definitely going to have some growing pains this year and it is too bad we are not further along. I think we will need to wait until next year to see this team take the next step.

I'm really interested to see what Donovahn Jones can contribute at WR.

I remind people of this all the time because so many seem to forget it, but Kill has been on the money so far in what we have, and don't and where we are at. First year the cupboard is bare, we will suck and we did. Second year we are better but young, young, young and lack depth and it showed, but we made a bowl game which was exciting.

This year we are deeper and better, but not there yet. We have young talent, experience with young players that were forced into playing early and we are stronger and faster, but we still lack Senior leadership and are playing a lot of underclassmen in our two deeps compared to the top B1G teams.

That said, he keeps saying 3 full recruiting classes to see the results on the field and based on how strong the players he has recruited are playing so far...I like the chances that next year we will start to see what Kill & Co envision. Still won't be fully there and still young, but better.

I am excited and super excited that so many kids saw the field and will see the field over the next two weeks. Come SJSU & then IA, we should be ready (barring any more injuries!).

Maxx had a good game and made a nice catch on the TD. Might be a little early to start tossing around All-American and high NFL stock though on a kid with one college game to his name against a weak opponent.

Don't get me wrong I hope what we saw on Thursday was a preview of the next 4 years but probably want to hold the NFL talk till he has at least one full season under his belt.

Hey if you want realism go to the game day thread. This is the koolaid crowd and we are stirring with our hands!

I'll disagree. There is nothing horribly wrong with this team that can't be improved on this season.. We're not a championship team, but I also don't think anyobe is going push these guys around without a fight.

I thought Murray was the standout that game, and was surprised when Shabazz was given player of the game. I do like our young guys, but we still need obvious help at WR, and coach Kill's insistence on burning red shirts on just a couple plays bothers me as well.

When did this happen?? Are you talking about last year and him burning Phillip's Redshirt?

Do you really think he burned the redshirts for just couple of plays this year?
