We Hate Iowa chant: Lame? Or awesome!

When we aren't playing Iowa, what do you think of this chant?

Worst ever. It makes us look like we have a major inferiority complex, that even when we're playing another team, Iowa's on our minds for some reason. And there's no reason for it. Do I hate Iowa when we're not playing them? No, I pity them. Their state is boring. Again, the rival of my alma mater mentioned us in their fight song, and we always thought it was hilarious. Does anybody think that Iowa folks will have their feelings hurt by the chant? I think the new chant (which should only be used against Iowa) is "We think Iowa is an inferior state and beneath our consideration. Good Day." I know that chant would fire ME up.

It also looks like we have an inferiority complex when we worry about what other people think about us all the time.

It is fun and it is rarely done when we are not playing Iowa... so I vote Awesome.

Who the eff does the chant to hurt their feelings? These are folks who latch on to the one thing their state has and ride it into the ground. There is very little that will pierce that delusional bubble. I (and "old person" of 28) participate in and enjoy the chant because its a silly way to express my disdain for Iowa. It's fun and meant for the enjoyment of Gopher fans (which is why any time is a good time to say it). I could care less what Iowa fans think of us for using it. Just like I don't care if they think the first down chant is silly. Little hint: they will look upon anything we do with disdain no matter what. It's part of being a rival.

My coworker is an old student. How the hell is he supposed to vote in this poll?

It's lame and tired. I think of Hawkeye fans to be something similar to a toothache or a sprained ankle (painful, annoying, but temporrary).
I can't offer much of an alternative chant for the student section to use.....but "hate Iowa" is a bit much IMO.

From the looks of their basketball team and the future of their football team, we may not be hearing too much about them for awhile anyway.

I think it's great how they actually thought they'd be a BCS team this year; the only prize they'll win is "biggest flop" of the year. : )

Oh to be 7-5 in football...one can dream.

How bout the option of how it is currently used. Every once in awhile, the students will break it out. It is awesome that way. Obviously all the time would be lame, but there is nothing wrong with it here and there.

not good
oddly, while watching a PenSt BB game before Thanksgvg, their student section started chanting "F*ck Bo Ryan", sounded like being at a Goph game. Thought maybe Bo was their scouting or maybe they just couldn't resist because it sounds so natural.

I think it gets ridiculous most of the time. I didn't particularly like it after the Iowa game, when students down on the field were chanting it. The team just won its biggest game in four or five years, and we have to chant how much we hate Iowa. Doesn't seem like a good way to celebrate a win and congratulate the players. It was even worse during the basketball game. Some players and Coach Horton brought out Floyd, and half the student section is chanting who hates Iowa? The entire Barn is giving a loud standing ovation, and we have half the students chanting who hates Iowa the entire time. No chants actually about winning the game. No chants about the players. No chants for Coach Horton, which would have been awesome. Nope. Just who hates Iowa, for the 3000th time. Is that what was really important after that win--hating Iowa? Especially in moments like that, I think we should cheer for the team, instead of trash Iowa.

+1

It's great when we're playing Iowa, and totally juvenile, corny, and embarrassing when we're not.

College is amazing; students, teaches and all come to improve themselves and the world. It has nothing to do with hate.

Chant something like “Minnesota Floyd” or “Floyd is home” or “Floyd is a gopher” or "We have Floyd" ....

Prior to the South Dakota State v. Nebraska game, a guy with an Iowa jersey wandered in to the Sidetrack Bar (great pre- and pos-game party scene in Lincoln) and the "Who hates Iowa cheer" started up (okay, some Jackrabbits started it...the Nebraska fans seemed puzzled but were smiling and a few joined in). It was pretty funny. We later explained to some Cornpeople that if they expect to play in the Big 10, they'll have to learn some of the rules.

I suppose if someone thought it was lame, they probably concluded we were from Minnesota. Sorry! :)

All the people complaining about this are nancys that should grow a pair. If you don't like it come up with something better and then we can all tell you how much it sucks. Bottom line, it's one of the few things that get the students going and participate just like the 1st down cheer in football. Every day on here it's something else, "The play the rouser too much!" and then the next day, "Why didn't they play the rouser very much?", "Don't say fck Bo Ryan!" and then the next day "I wish our fans were more aggressive".

Sometimes I think most of you would rather we just sit and watch games like it's a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ing golf tournament. Stop bitching about everything.

It seems like some people read a comment by someone and they attribute the ideas to everyone. These are different people expressing different ideas. So the ball bounces in different directions. Up and down. Back and forth. Not that hard to understand.

Haha!! That's awesome.

And to answer the poll.. I'm 'old' (at 28) and I like it. The Iowans that I know personally, are some of the best people I do know. Every OTHER Hogeye fan I've ever encountered (mostly via the web-r-nets) have been tools. I hate Becky more, but I still hate Iowa.

Win or lose, I will always hate Iowa.

The best insult is indifference.

I would badmouth Iowa, but honestly, I have never had any reason to go there and learn about it.
