I felt that way initially, why not get Al Golden- up and coming coach, but what said, our guy beat him. Yes he has rebuilt Temple, but our guy rebuilt multiple football programs, and our guy had a better year that he did, and our guy has the style of offense that plays as close to perfectly as it can get with the talent we carry. I think we got, our guy.

I've been saying this since our coach took over. Kill is much more of a sure thing. All of the good things you can say about Golden, you can say them about Kill twice. All of the bad things you could say about Kill, you can repeat them for Al Golden. I wouldn't have been upset with hiring Golden, but I never understood why he was considered such a better candidate (amongst the masses) than Kill.

I'm glad we got our guy, but even if we have to debate this (considering the respective programs), it shows that our search went well.

Time will tell. My money is on Golden. Not a put down of Kill, just a ranking of their respective potentials.

Absolutely. Heck, the Eastern Michigan coach could become the next Bill Parcels, time will tell. However, when you are hiring someone, all you have to look at is their current resume. That's really it.

When comparing the resumes of Kill and Golden, it's hard to make an argument for Golden over Kill besides an argument like yours (a hunch). No offense, because everyone's hunch is as good as everyone elses (except Lakesbison, his are terrible).

In all honesty, if Golden succeeds at Miami, there is no way of knowing if he would have success here (or Kill for that matter). So it really is impossible to ever tell how Golden would have done at MN.

My entire point was that since Miami is a considerably better program than the U, the mere fact that it would be a debate (Golden vs. Kill), means that we did better in our search than they did in theirs. IMO.
 

Miami supposedly has a lot of really good players in their backyard. They also have a history of being a renegade bad-boy college footall program. Can Golden keep that pressure cooker from blowing up? Can he get fans to come to their games and buy enough tickets. Prexy Donna S. must be counting on him big=time. Everybody says you can win there and win big. My biggest question is can you keep it from running amuck down there? Is Golden rough enough, tough enough and experienced enough to keep the lid on in Miami? Time will tell.
 

Kill would have cost more money and Kill had a better resume.


Golden is younger and a hotter name. Pick your poison.
 



we got a mac coach, so did they.....our guy beat their guy and won or was runner up in the league, right? Seems obvious who came out on top here. miami isn't even the best team in the state of FL, much less the ACC, they don't even have an on campus stadium??! i think we'll be in good shape as we got a guy who wants to be at the U, hoped for a bigger name, but it is what it is

More like a ranking of their program's "respective potentials".

Like most of the nationally mentioned coaches Golden probably didn't think the Gopher job was a good job. History shows they're right. I hope Kill shows they were wrong.
 

I think Golden was at or near the top of our list (he was on mine), but he probably realized that when he did finally move, he wanted to move to more of a sure thing.

I'm fine with Kill. Probably a better fit for us on more than a few levels.

Golden looks like a politician, - better teeth and hair. Kill would look out-of-place in S. Florida.
