I’ve always felt the coaches poll was more of a popularity vote than reality. The writers are usually more informed.
I’ve always felt that the coaches basically rank the teams with the fewest losses from major conferences whereas the media does whatever they want

You are probably closer to the truth!

10 SEC teams only 5 Big Ten. SEC teams only lose to ranked teams so they never leave the top 25.
Exactly. The latest on line argument for the SEC faithful is the B1G teams suck because they don’t have as many ranked wins. Ironic, considering that is the whole point of the B1G argument, that everyone in the SEC gets ranked preseason and then pretty much only have ranked losses. An SEC team with two losses by this time is ranked. A B1G team often is NOT, even if there may be head to head results that suggest the two loss B1G team may be better than the ranked two loss SEC team.

Very few coaches probably even bother to do the rankings week to week and probably have someone on their staff do it. Coaches are laser focused week to week on their team and the teams they are playing and don't really have time to look at the overall picture of college football.

Texas is still ranked despite ... that horrendous game vs Kentucky. It was a win but man ...

Correct
So basically sort by losses

Six B1G teams at 5-2 that are not ranked. The three 5-2 SEC teams are ranked.

Tennessee has zero wins over a ranked opponent.

Northwestern, Minnesota, USC and Illinois all have ranked wins.
I always post this, but reminds me of LSU moving UP in the rankings for ALMOST beating USC last year ... we beat USC ...

If they wouldn’t have shit it down their leg vs Cal they’d be in the top 25 right now. Cal is not a good football team. We caught them on their best day and played like shit. It’s happened 4 of the last 5 years, losing a game you have no business losing.

This is the truth, but it doesn’t matter yet. Beat Iowa and then they'll be ranked. Win out, and they're in the playoff.

Definitely annoying the way the SEC teams are given the benefit of the doubt based on inflated pre-season rankings.

Not really possible in football but would be cool to be able to do a Big Ten/SEC series based on the previous years finish. Big Ten would probably do really well in something like that.
