I’ve watched one Toledo game this season. It was last Saturday’s MAC Championship game loss to number one seed Ball State (my other alma mater). I wasn’t anticipating an impending Gopher/Rocket matchup.

The quick scout: Toledo is an experienced team with a new coach, Ginny Boggess. Toledo finished 24-8 (13-5 MAC). The Rockets have a couple of rocket guards whose speed gave Ball State some trouble. Inside, Toledo featured post play bringing physicality and fouls.

Two of Toledo’s losses were to Iowa 57-94 and Maryland 70-92.
Go GOPHERS

Going to be interesting to see how the team plays well rested and lot of practice time to work on areas of noted struggle during the big 10 season.

The boys tournament will be over by Saturday, but even with a win Thursday, the Gophers would not host a second-round game Sunday officially because the facility needs to be available for both teams the day before the game. That means a win would send the Gophers to the winner of the Missouri State/Oral Roberts game.

once again it looks like we will have to be ROAD WARRIORS again this postseason

Rockets in the National Ranks
  • Toledo is 30th in the country in attendance (4,341 per home contest).
  • Toledo is 29th in the country with a +6.6 rebound margin.
  • The Rockets have out-rebounded 22 of their last 26 opponents.
  • Toledo is 46th in the country in field goal percentage, shooting 45.0% from the field this season.
  • The Rockets shot 50% or better this season nine times. The Rockets also shot a blistering 56.5% (13-of-23) from three-point range in the MAC quarterfinal matchup against Central Michigan.
Of Note
  • Toledo is 13-1 at Savage Arena this season, including an eight-game winning streak. Toledo will play its first home game since an 80-70 victory against Central Michigan on March 1.
  • Toledo is one of nine teams to play in both the 2024 and 2025 WBIT tournaments. The other schools are Belmont, Florida, Hawaii, James Madison, Missouri St., St. Joseph's (Pa.), Seton Hall and Villanova.
  • Nan Garcia has eight double-digit scoring outings in her last 12 games. She is averaging 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals in that span.
  • Sammi Miknonowicz is fourth in the MAC with a 52.1% field goal percentage. She has made five or more field goals in each of her last seven games, shooting 59.7% (40-of-67) in that span.
  • Khera Goss shot 8-for-14 (57.1%) in the MAC Tournament and is fifth in the league at 40.9% this season.
  • Head Coach Ginny Boggess is coaching in a national tournament for her third-straight season and is 1-2 in the last two years. She led Monmouth in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and 2024 WNIT.
  • Should Toledo win, Boggess would tie Bill Fennelly (1988-89) and Mark Ehlen (1995-96) for the most wins by a first-year Head Coach in program history

Gophers really should be blowing them out. McKinney and Hart missing around the rim. Need to make those.

What a disastrous quarter, every shot coming up short. Starting to get into foul trouble

Really shitty second quarter. Can’t let them in the game. Fans here will get into it and make life difficult.

good to see that we STILL can't get many calls... but when we are straight up on defense they are getting bailed out..

We miss so many easy hoops by not getting the ball up on the board. If Amaya had a left hand , she would have about 4 more hoops.

Gophers bigs are not having a good game collectively, getting out rebounded and shooting miserably. I really hope they show up for the second half.

Toledo is getting away with shoves and fouls they would call on Gophers. A lot of grabbing.

Sure looked like a foul on Toledo on that last Stewart shot attempt before 3 shot. Hopefully Gophers start making a few more of these layups. Gophers have been unlucky on some shots that looked down but spun out.

We need to have one of our monster 4th quarters and put this one away.

on that Anni 3 before the end of the quarter.. 2 of our players got pushed and nothing.. been like that all game.. but call some very iffy stuff on us..

The way some people here were talking, it was as if the Gophers trailed the whole game instead of led the whole game. No team in the WBIT is a terrible slouch and it's hard to play on the road against any half decent team. A win is a win and we live to fight another day.

I'd also say games like this are great practice for this team without Mara because they haven't had a lot of games where they kept getting punched and had to find a way to go on multiple runs to punch back. They've done that quite well today. But I bet they would have unfortunately lost the first NCAA tournament game.

Strong 1st/ 4th quarters . Toledo 7/22 from 3 n we shot 2/14. Hoping our shooting improves in the upcoming games .

A win is a win. Some thoughts:
Battle had a nice game. Still dribbles too much.
GG very solid
Halloway spark!
Stewart probably her worse game as a Gopher.
I want Heyer to become a shooter so bad.

The off-season portal will be extremely important. Need a dominant big and elite shooter. Would like to see Hart come off the bench. She does well but misses too many shots.

Shook coach’s hand after the game, one Michigan Tech grad to another. Moving on, wished her good luck. Holloway needs to play more if she can continue this effort.

Will there be a replay of the game available anywhere? Would like to have watched it.
