Wayzata DC to Maple Grove

The first time I ever saw MBIII was in the playoffs when he made two interceptions that literally had him coming out of nowhere to take the ball. the plays were actually stunning.

He was/is obviously a phenomenal rb but watching him at db (which was only part time and only against the top teams as he was so relied on on offense) was just as you said, stunning.

You are really reaching. If the point is fairness to all players getting a chance to play a full schedule...but it requires you to leave half your team at home for cost reasons that doesnt work.

Why force some teams to travel an hour or more to games when there is a team that they want to play that wants to play them just 15 minutes away?

Outstate it makes more sense and I understand that. In the metro it makes no sense to force Kennedy to play Eden Prairie when Kennedy wants to play burnsville and burnsville wants to play them. If it is about fairness for everyone, letting school choose who schools want to play is key. If the MSHSL overreaches, they will risk teams in certain conferences dropping out in football and forming their own state tourney (Misssota, South Suburban, East Suburban, NW suburban are all conferences that would be negatively affected by realignment and sectional scheduling).

I agree it is not simple and will not be pain free. I actually think that the top 32 teams in 5A should be put into 2 conferences of 16. Then have two division of 8 in the two conferences. Play each team in your division for seven games and then have week eight as 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and so on. That would seed the playoffs. I don't like the 16 or 24 team proposals.

What are these modifications? Conferences? Sections? I don't get the chance to follow Minnesota high school sports much being out of state.

After seeing the article, I checked Maple Grove's football site and saw they are hosting Eden Prairie next season. That's cool to see, because I don't think MG has played a non-conference game in several years. If these modifications lead to more non-con games, I'd like for it to happen.

The South Suburban and NW Suburban agreed to supply games each year against the Lake Conference teams to help with scheduling. EP, Edina, Wayzata, Minnetonka, and Hopkins are guaranteed Non-conference games with this agreement.

Like 32 best? Or 32 biggest?

Because if it was the 32 biggest, there would be about 10-15 teams that have no business being on the same field as the top 12.

All creating another class does is make the 2-3 superschools beat the next level of schools in a 2nd round game instead of a 4th round game. Wayzata beats Rosemount for the state championship in the 3rd round instead of the 6th. It actually takes away games.

Might have to make it a metro thing with maybe Brainerd. The Rochester's don't need to be at the top level. Right now the max for games is 14. This would be 13 games to win it all. Most 5A sections have byes already, so not much will change at all.

I think the biggest issue is that no one wants to see 1 v 8 games anymore in sections. They are terrible for the teams, fans, and officials. They need to come up with a better plan.

That doesn't make sense either though....why would you just give Brainerd a state title like that?
Only about half of 5A sections have byes.

Brainerd would be in the 32. Actually only 1 section in 5A has 8 teams. 6 have 7 teams and 1 has 6 teams. Makes no sense to be unbalanced like that.

That's a good thing. Playing all eight games against teams within your conference is really, really boring.

I still don't get what sweeping changes people are suggesting.

There are major issues in out state football with enrollment changes. Some conferences now have 2, 3, and 4A schools in them. Larger schools are being pushed out of conferences and can't find non-conference games to play. For example Grand Rapids and Duluth East are playing in Metro conferences next year. Detroit Lakes had issues finding games. South Central Conference teams have been playing some home and homes with one as a non-conference game. This doesn't include the issues with the Old Classic Lake teams and EP. No one wants to play them.

Couple that with no one wanting to see 1v8 games played in the playoffs. For example: Duluth East had to travel to Moorhead on a Tuesday night to get beat by 45.

So the MSHSL is looking to change the format to help these issues. Possibly they will create similar formats to WIS. and IA. In 2011 they are allowing teams to apply to start the season one week early to help with scheduling non-conference games. Issue with that is it takes another week of summer away from the players, families, and coaches. Add in Calendar shifts and they might have to eliminate a game like other states are doing in 2012.

There is no cure all answer. I'd like to see a way for teams to have 9-10 regular season games and only about half the teams make the playoffs.

Maxy... How old are those enrollment numbers? Minneapolis North is not nearly that size.

There will soon likely be a big shakeup in the Wright Co Conf as the more rural schools are looking like they will break away to join New London-Spicer and Roccori while Waconia, Hutch, Westonka, Orono, and Watertown will be left to scramble. Glencoe would head to the Minnesota River.

All that would do is move half of the 5A teams to a 6A. Nobody would want to play against Wayzata still. It is an hour away from the teams in the South Suburban conference so they would rather just play each other. Armstrong Dropped out of that conference for a reason.

Technically North High is North St. Paul, not Minneapolis North.

I know that the Minnesota River voted Holy Family out of their conference and I think Mayer Lutheran is leaving as well.
