I don’t recall seeing him in the game.
 

Baranowski was out at LB, injured. I don’t recall seeing Henderson play (wasn’t specifically watching for him). Eli Mau and Joey Gerlach got play at LB; Lucas Finnessy also played a lot at edge. Gophers might have come out of this big win with some new injuries. PJ subtly referenced this possibility in his post-game. Won’t know anything, of course, until 2 hours before the UCLA kickoff.
 

Kerry Brown got knocked out of the game early. Thought maybe concussion?
 


He was interviewed after the game, specifically asked about the Koi interception. Interviewer made a comment about him not playing as much due to defensive packages being used to combat the fact USC throws the ball so much...... I don't know who played for him in those packages....
 




I think McMillan was in much of the time for him.

Why has he been starting since he came here if he isn’t any good? From what I’ve seen in the past he’s made a lot of good plays.

On another note what happened to McDonald? I thought they liked him. Is he injured?
 



Henderson is plenty good enough to get on the field. I wonder if they just like other guys a little more in pass coverage.

He was woozy on the field and went into the tent. He made a brilliant diving tackle, but might have gotten kneed in the helmet. Hope he is available again soon.

USC threw a lot of quick passes to the side line in bubble screen type plays. Having a true, very quick CB in the nickel position was probably a good thing for this game—as USC passed much more than it ran. USC did, however, really gashed us with its running game—which might be related to the fact that a big, physical hitter like Henderson was switched out for McMillan.

McMillan had 8 tackles vs USC including 5 solo. Nice little under the radar transfer add that hasn’t had a huge role so far, but certainly was a big contributor this game.
 


Seems to be a situational substitute (McMillan for Henderson).
Earlier in the season, there was talk about the high amount of versatility on defense.
USC offense was completely different than the previous 5 offenses they faced.

It does feel like on run plays you watch the replay and our LBs are picking the wrong hole or position to meet the runner, a lot.

Some of might be defense design and on the defensive lineman too...I don't know. I felt that one of the first things Rossi did to shore up the defense when he took over mid-season 2018 was to give the DL gap responsibility first to keep the OL off the linebackers - the DL would clutch and grab the OL which is technically illegal but never called. There are trade offs as that also hampered the pass rush and tackles-for-loss, but it stopped the bleeding big time in the run game.

Let's see how Hetherman handles that going forward as there are still several good running teams on the schedule.

Yep, he stepped up nicely. I had to look him up on the roster since I couldn't recall who wore #24 on defense and his hair obscured the nameplate on his jersey.

Surprisingly, #24 was one of the worst graded players per PFF. Had a sub 48 grade in tackling and coverage.
 



I like Maverick.......Lindenberg leaves a bit to be desired.

I think losing Baranowski for an extended period does not help the defense. Hopefully it wasn't a collar bone like it looked like in the Michigan game.

More often they see the right hole but are getting blasted to the sidelines.
