Wally Ellenson, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard from Rice Lake (WI) High, is expected to attend next weekend's Minnesota-Iowa game. He made an unofficial visit to Minnesota in October and attended the Gophers' homecoming game versus Purdue. Ellenson helped lead the Playground Warriors 15-and-under AAU team to runner-up finishes at the Hoosier Shootout and Kentucky Hoopfest last summer.

His father, John, played college basketball at Marquette and Wisconsin. He is also a standout high jumper. He had a season-best 6-foot-7 jump and finished seventh in the WIAA Track & Field State Championship with a jump of 6-foot-4.

Ellenson has already received scholarship offers from Saint Louis, North Dakota State, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is hearing from schools such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Colorado State.

Go Gophers!!

And for your halftime entertainment, Rodney Williams and Wally Ellenson will compete in the high jump!

Curse his old man!

2012 kid... he's no JP Tokoto but this kid has serious skills.

I was going to say thank goodness that his old man finally saw the light. :)

The Wisconsin 2012 class has a number of kids behind JP Tokoto who have the potential to be high major kids. Ellenson is certainly in that group, as he has pretty good size and athleticism. Needs some further skill development, but he is definitely someone to watch over the next couple years. He plays with a real good group in the Wisconsin Playground Warriors AAU program, including Tokoto. They could do very well this spring and summer at the 16U level.
