Vikings WR Charles Johnson on Isaac Fruechte

Saying he's super fast is a bit of an exaggeration. With 4.4-4.5 40 combine times, pro DBs aren't going to be too concerned about being burned on the out route.

Only 4.4 to 4.5 ? How fast do you think most NFL receivers and dbacks are?

I hear he has a great personality as well.

I'm not saying he isn't fast, but he ran 4.5 on his pro day workout. Nineteen WRs ran the 40 faster at the combine. I don't think his speed is good enough to beat NFL DBs deep consistently. That is all I'm saying.

So you previously said "4.4-4.5". 4 WRs at the combine ran a sub 4.4.

we're those hand or electronic times? (it had to be asked)

From what I saw from Fruechte on film and in person, his speed does not translate into a productive WR.

Not sure if he'll make it in the NFL, but he sure was a trooper when it came to doing the dirty work that Gopher receivers are often asked to do (a lot of blocking).

I don't see lack of speed being the reason he doesn't make it. He has enough speed to keep corners honest. His hands, ability to go get the ball and lack of college production are the questions. Is his lack of college numbers partially a result of the system and passing attach or totally on him? Probably a little of both.. A great kid who bleeds gold and maroon and part of a group that has and is changing the culture of Gopher football. Hope he makes a little money playing for awhile.

The obsession over 40 times in a speedo, and how that relates to success, is ridiculous. Jerry Rice ran a 4.7. Terrell Owens ran a 4.5. Michael Irvin ran a 4.5. Chris Carter ran a 4.6.

Not saying Freuchte will last in the NFL. I'm not comparing him to those greats (I know you're chomping at the bit to go after that one). But, if he doesn't make it, it's certainly not because he runs a 4.5 as opposed to a 4.4. Let's try and grasp reality, here. It's a multi-faceted skill set.

It's really gotten Al Davisey around here lately with these 40-times.

From what I found, 4.4 was his low time and he had a high of 4.61 according to nfldraftstock.com. WRs between 4.4 and 4.49 have sub 4.4 low times. I should have put his times between 4.45-4.55 perhaps.

Nfldraftstock DOES NOT use actual times until after the combine or pro day. They make wild ass guesses based on no actual facts. Why do they do that? I don't know. But, it gets people to believe they know stuff that they don't.
