Interesting write-up from the LA Times USC sports writer. Our new competitors from The B1G West End are coming to grips with their own visions of grandeur crashing like waves on Lake Superior in the gales of November. Good read:

Go Gophers! Let's beat the next team from sunny Cal...

Added this one too that shows what real sports reporting includes...Shame on the Strib for not including this in their new "Minnesota's Newspaper" reporting. More good stuff:

Nice articles but not getting your Strib comment.

Earlier this week I caught a small snippet of DiNardo, Wannstedt et al discussing the (then) upcoming USC-Minnesota tilt.

One of them said that after the Trojans came from behind to beat Wisconsin, someone on the USC team had made a comment that they hadn't expected Wisconsin to be that tough.

Wannstedt and DiNardo both made the point that USC had better not take Minnesota lightly or they just might end up taking a loss in Minneapolis.

Quite prophetic!

Got it. The second article in the post is a quarter by quarter rundown of the game.

The Des Moines Register and Lincoln Journal Star routinely have this kind of article. Print coverage of football games used to have this game rundown as a standard feature. I have a couple of Sports sections from Gopher games from the 50s that has this, including the Minneapolis Star.

I only picked on the Strib because it's "new approach" is to focus on all things news statewide to be "Minnesota's newspaper." Wouldn't expect actual print space on the hardcopy Mrs. Billd gets every Sunday morning but all the electrons need for the web version is for someone to record it. I also know there are a number of sites that do this too.

Admittedly a cheap shot but that's where my mind went seeing that coverage in the L.A. Times.
