Fox Sports: Guy eats ice cream in the snow on Minnesota sideline

ESPN's Brett McMurphy's identified him as sideline phone technician Dan Lehman.

We've ID'd him as awesome.

This should be our "tough guy" ad campaign! Stop apologizing for the weather.....embrace it!

Not only that, they should have ice cream brought to the sideline for all the staff people on the sideline just for the intimidation factor....

I would almost guarantee that the player next to him was asking where he got the ice cream and he was motioning to the press box but love how it looks like he is showing it to the camera. I agree though, no reason to run from the cold, we should embrace it.

DQ should sign this guy up for some marketing too, it's never too cold for a Dilly Bar.

That would be awesome. I have met Dan before, great guy, would be cool to see something come out of this for him. If nothing else DQ should send him a case of Dilly Bars for all the free publicity.

Great point Maverick! Totally agree. Those that were at the game and dressed for the weather it was not bad at all. People that wore hoodies and tennis shoes it was cold.

Agreed. If I had worn boots, I would have felt great. I had three layers on the bottom and 5 layers up top combined with mittens and a hat and I felt just great. Except for my toes. Two pairs of wool socks didn't save them. Next year I'll make sure I have some boots on my feet.

What exactly does the phone technician do? I hope his response time to service calls is better than CenturyLink.......

Makes sure the headsets work? O wait...

Joke explanation: If you listened to the post game interview, Kill said his headset was broken and couldn't call a timeout because of it.

When that came on the screen, I knew people would be laughing about it.

Ice cream on a cold day outside seems perfect fine to me. *Shrugs*

But then again, I grew up in Fargo, where the cold tends to make you a bit dumb.

Jerry Kill could not call a timeout fast enough before the first miscue that let into a touch down because the phone wasn't working to communicate upstairs. Now we know why, because the technician was busy eating a dilly bar instead of making sure the equipment work!

Are the refs tied into the headsets? If not, how would that prevent a time out call?

Not sure exactly. Maybe yelling at whichever player has the hooked up helmet to tell him to go call a timeout?

ESPN: 'Dilly Bar Dan' enjoys his brush with fame

On Saturday afternoon, Dan Lehman finished up doing the same thing he's done for nearly 20 years: helping make sure the phones and headsets worked at a Minnesota football game. But as he was getting ready to go home, a co-worker told him something unusual.

Lehman had become a social-media sensation.

The Belle Plaine, Minnesota, resident had been photographed on the sidelines of TCF Bank Stadium eating a Dairy Queen Dilly Bar during the Ohio State-Minnesota game. No big deal, he thought. But many others got a kick out of seeing a guy eat ice cream in 15-degree temperatures and snow. Many, many others.

The picture was endlessly passed around Twitter and other social media and appeared on blogs such as this one. That turned Lehman into an instant minor celebrity. On Monday, he was interviewed by two Twin Cities TV stations and had several other media requests.

"All for a Dilly Bar!" Lehman told ESPN.com. "This is absolutely nuts. Nothing like this ever happens."

I don't think college football has helmets that communicate with the sidelines.

Most likely the coaches upstairs were trying to let them know they had the wrong play called but Kill wasn't getting the message and couldn't call timeout.

Claeys would tell Kill to call timeout, but Kill did not hear it.

I saw dozens enjoying a Nordeast or a Redd's Apple Ale. None of them seemed bothered. I screwed up not wearing boots. I had 2 pairs of socks on, but kept the boots at home since I walk about a mile to the stadium. I had foot warmer insoles in my shoes, but nothing happened after I shook them and put them in my shoes. I stood the entire game, shuffled and stomped, nothing. Then on the walk back , they kicked in and started working after I froze my feet for three hours.

Lol yeah I was loving the crowd shots all day. I turned to my dad after one and said, "Drinking a Grain Belt through a ski mask while watching football in the snow...nothing more Minnesotan than that!"
