Very Proud of the Effort, but we do not have the horses to be a top 15 team.

Can't say how happy I was with the effort and how the team got run over in the first half and yet held it together and fought back. I don't believe the team had any more to give today then they gave. Ohio St. is just bigger, stronger and better. Which we knew going in. It is a joy to see our guys compete in games like this. We will need to upgrade the talent the next few years if we want to compete with teams like this.

Also wanted to point out, the coaches knew it as well as we did. This is the first time under Kill that I can recall us resorting to trick plays. I'm not at all opposed to them, but I think it gives us a glimpse of what the coaches saw on film.

Let's see the next two games.

Let's see the next two games.

I doubt either Nebraska or Wisconsin could hang with this Ohio St team either, but we'll get to see one of the three of us try in the B1G Championship game.

We need better quarterbacking, a more solid passing game to complement the running game. Gophers making a real effort, though, against one of the nation's better teams (and how good will Buckeyes be in two or three years?).

I'd guess Barrett will be gone after next year. He's got big time pro potential.

He may not even play next year. Who knows what they do when Miller is back.

That is a tough call. But from what I've seen, I'd suggest to Miller to go pro or get used to backing up.

I admit a good showing by the gophers, keep it within 10 and I say it was a success overall. We just are not there yet

Braxton Miller could also possibly use the graduate transfer rule and move to another college kinda like Russell Wilson did.

Minnesota would be a great destination! :p

Still two minutes left and we could still conceivably win this thing, but I concur with your assessment. We've come so far and I think Kill is a great coach. Just need a few more athletes.

We are very close to having the total package in place. However, their quarterback for example today was a 10 and ours was a three. All we really need our quarterback to be is a six or seven and he struggles to consistently come out and play at that level.

No shame.

We played hard and caught almost every break.

We're closer, but not an awesome team.

Let's win one more conference game this year!

If you would've told me with under 2 minutes we'd be an onside recovery away from going in for a game tying or winning score against a superiorly talented OSU team that has found itself in the last month I would've only guessed we played a respectable game...

did people see how happy Urban Meyer was to beat us? that's respect... he was less emotional after beating a top 10 MSU team last week...

Agreed. Although DH (I mean Meyer) thinks the state has a bad smell and he can't stand the weather. You're in the wrong league buddy. I'll root against them the rest of they year because he's such an ahole.

Nice effort. All I wanted going in was a shot at the end and we had that. Ohio state is just better. Leidner is getting better and I hate to sound like I'm knocking him. I don't mean too cause the kid is a competitor and giving it his all. Having said that, our QB play is still the one thing on this team that is holding us back. He is improving and I think he'll get better. But he has to get better throwing the ball downfield. If he does, we are a legitimate contender for the Big10 and more.

Disagree. Payton Manning would have not done much better today. Our Oline was manhandled all day on passing downs and no one was open for more than a 5 yard out.

Ohio State was clearly the better team, but Minnesota is gaining ground. IMO, they just need better QB play to get over that hump.

Mitch is a super slow QB.

He can't play pressured.

Our OL got worked today on pass coverage.

Good point. Never thought about that. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

Is there any rule about him transferring within the conference? He'd be perfect for our offense. ;)

They were blitzing a lot too. But you are correct. The receivers didn't get any separation. Still wondering why Jones didn't play.

We're close, just not quite there yet.

Did D. Jones play today? I don't recall seeing him out there.

There were a lot of good things about today's game but one thing that really bothered me was all of the big plays that we gave up on third and 5+ yards. OSU was 9 of 13 on third down conversions and seemed to have their way with us. How may times did Barrett take off and convert those third downs or break them for a big play. Our defensive coaches, in my opinion, did a very poor job with the defensive adjustments to try and contain him on third down and it cost them. There were times our tackling was not great either but our inability to hold them on third downs and get off the field killed us.

It really hurt that Mitch overthrew KJ Maye early in the game. Maye had his man beat, and it would have been a TD. However, Mitch was barely off and put it where only Maye had even a chance to get it... he seems to be getting a better feel for his receivers, and is making more throws when given time. He had pressure in the pocket all day, and got a bit rattled which seemed to lead to the two INT's. That being said, he made plays in the air and with his legs on that last drive -- which was killed by a bone head penalty.

Coach Kill harps on the fact that the Gophers need to execute and avoid mistake in order to win, and today we just left too many opportunities on the field and made too many mistakes against a very good Ohio State team. As someone else said, this game can act as another brick and give the team a chance to watch film and see how close they were on a number of plays that might have led to a different outcome.

Go Gophers!

The team and program is getting better.

We lost to by far the best team in the league 31-24 with very a one dimensional offense.

We still control our own destiny in the B1G West.

Take a deep breath, thank the football gods we got out of the game healthy, and prepare for the Huskers.

We need a thank the seniors thread. Cobb is a legend.
