Vander Blue de-commits

I think you are mostly just trying to reiterate your point of the legality of the scholarship, so I assume the reiteration of mine won't be too redundant.

Blake is intelligent, and obviously cares about his academic work, and it shows with his results. That being said, there are many students who receive no semblance of merit-based scholarship for having very good marks (and I am not referring to myself- there are many students whom I know personally with better marks, etc).

He deserves credit for being a dedicated athlete with great grades, etc. But, he is already on a scholarship. Give that merit money to other students.

But yes, in reference to your point, it does certainly appear to be legal. I am merely saying I would disagree with it, if they pursued it. But, I highly doubt they will, so it seems like a rather mute point.

I was just joking with you.

Very few teams have a young man like Blake Hoffarber. A skilled athlete who is also an outstanding student. I daresay even a better student than athlete, no insult to the latter.

thread theft

I have to laugh at myself once again. Reading through this thread I became so mesmerized by Blake's gpa and grades and NCAA rules I was startled by someone adding links about Vander Blue!

Thread theft I thought!

I think there is a Vander Blue thread somewere - go post those links there!

OOOPS!

I actually forgot THIS IS the Vander Blue thread ! :)

UWOle, thanks for the info. Thorough as usual!

FoT could be funnier than I thought he was. :) A good day to all...

I think Blue, when he decommitted, already knew what school he was going to commit to. Actually I think Tubby has a better opportunity to get Barnes then Blue! I do believe he is actually in the running with him!

Well the plot is thickening to the east as we speak.

Apparently, Vander Blue has scheduled a press conference this evening starting at approximately for 5:30 p.m. to address his recruiting situation. There was an article posted, written by a future Gopher no-less :D, on wishoops.net in which Blue is quoted as saying he felt like he was "unwanted" in Wisconsin due to Rob Schulz's article last week. He also was quoted as saying he was "hurt" by seeing how people "really feel" about him and that those folks were basing their opinions on false information.

I fully expect this to be an announcement that he's reopening his recruitment. All the signs are pointing towards that. It also seems, at least for now, that he wants out of the state of Wisconsin altogether, whether that be Wisconsin or Marquette. I don't know what all this means from our perspective, but thought it was an interesting little bit of news from across the river.

My thought was that he decommitted to go to Marquette! Would not mind being wrong!

Before everyone gets ahead of themselves just remember that if he was going to have trouble getting into UW, he will have just as much trouble getting into UM.

This may not be true. Vander and his family are saying that is blown way out of proportion. He's not the best student but they have no reason to believe that he wouldn't qualify to get into UW. The reporter that ran with that is really getting called out by the family as running with really inaccurate information.

From what I can gather the meeting on Monday was more of a preemptive effort to get him back on track academically. There have always been some concerns about his schooling. While he isnt in the same boat as his teammate Jeronne Maymon(MU commit) he was very close to getting to far behind in schooling to be admitted and both the UW coaches and the Memorial advisers wanted to sit him down and outline a path for success.

That was one of the reasons it was good that he committed early at the time due to the UW, it gave the UW admissions people a chance to lay a framework(summer school and required classes) to help him be ready for college. While he had the plan laid out for him, it seems that he didnt follow it fully.
