UW confirms Leuer's injury, set for surgery tomorrow

Amazing how some "internet rumors" end up being fact.

That isn't to say all "sources" are correct, but I think there are some knowledgeable people with decent sources that share information, and we shouldn't jump all over someone because they post what they've "heard."

Re: Leuer, it's really too bad. He was having such a great season, and seems like a good guy. I know he's a Badger, but I wish him a speedy recovery. Never like seeing kids get hurt.

I agree. Always sad to see players get hurt.

Agreed. This injury bummed me out. I want Wisconsin to stay ranked. It will make beating them all that much better for our resume.

Best of luck to the kid for his recovery.

What did you gain by "knowing" it a few days earlier? When gossip is wrong it is more detrimental then when rumors turn out to be facts.

Re: Leuer, i totally agree.

Considering that we don't play them until Feb 18th, it's possible that we still get to play against him.

Disappointed to hear this. Hope his recovery goes well, and I hope he's playing vs. the Gophers when they visit The Barn.

Know these 2 things. ...

(1) Bo will adapt; and

(2) The Badgers will not disappear into the sunset. They'll still be a tough out for anyone who plays 'em.

To be honest Beej, in the Big Ten, a player will not, IMO, be as effective as he usually is, after a month off from injury. Even a couple of games off affects him.

Leuer is making a name for himself and it's a shame to see him sidelined with an injury. Does anyone know if it was a scaphoid bone? Very common, but can be serious. I was surprised he didn't break both of wrists. It must have been on the play he fell down face first and braced himself with his hands as he went down.

First, I would like to thank JohnnyGopher for posting in the other thread. I did not believe or want to believe the Buckyville report because the guy had never posted and people make stuff up all the time. JG is obvioulsy very connected and when he said he had heard something, I figured it was true.

Second, sports as life, don't always go the way you want. Missing Leuer will obviously hurt, but I fully expect other players to step up and fill the void. Jon has worked unbelievably hard to improve and it is a shame this happened, but the Badgers will be fine. May have to change some things, obviously have to fill a lot of minutes, but there is still a ton of talent there.

If anyone saw how Jordan Taylor played against Purdue, you would have seen a kid that is really coming to his own. He will need to continue that, along with Evans and Bruiser. Bruiser was just starting to get it. He will need to get it a little quicker now.

I never like to see anyone hurt, or academically inelgible on any team. Despite what some of you may think.

It is going to be fun to see how the Badgers respond to the adversity.

One thing I will guarantee, they will still show up at the barn in mid February, with or without Leuer.:)

GVBadger:

""One thing I will guarantee, they will still show up at the barn in mid February, with or without Leuer. ""

I agree, and all I want is for GL to post a new final on the scoreboard with the Gophers number higher than the Wiskey number.

Go Gophers!

p.s. It's not the barn..It's THE BARN!

Good luck Mr. Leuer

I hate the Badgers, but I don't hate the Badgers. I've been really impressed with them this year and wish JL and the team the best of luck except for one day next month.

My girlfriend knows the Leuer family. Jon is not a good person.

"My girlfriend knows the Leuer family. Jon is not a good person."

Well that settles it then. Thanks for enlightening us. ... I'm sure we'll all take your girlfriend's word for it. Is she, like, a valley girl ("Like, oh my God, like. ...)?

No, his girlfriend is a Red River Vally Girl from the Fargo/ surrounding area...she says, "Like, Uffda, like...I can't , Like, uffda, like believe you got me this, like uffda, like such a small diamond, like, uffda"....

Too bad for the Badgers. I would rather have beat them with Leuer, so they could not make any excuses.

This is correct. Leuer or no - its not a gimme now.

It is sad to see one of the better players in the conference go down with an injury. I said the same for Coble, and I'll say the same here. However, I won't shed any tears if it causes the Badgers to lose a crack at the conference title.

True, but then there's Evan Turner.........

Valid point, but I also think it's funny how everyone on these boards call him a "good kid" when they know nothing about him except (a) he looks like a white, small town farm boy, (b) he works hard at basketball, and (c) maybe they've seen him do a tv interview now and then.

The original poster's second-hand information isn't any more baseless than most of your assumptions. Might have more basis. The fact that he went to Wisconsin raises red flags to begin with ... (half kidding, but not really...)

I have zero idea of whether Jon Leuer is a good kid or not. But I sure as heck know I'm going to take anything coming from a fan chat board with a large grain of salt, unless of course it's coming from Johnny Gopher or Anonymous. Those two guys if it pertains to Gopher athletics or college basketball. ... I listen when they speak.

I'm with ya totally on this one. The only thing I can add is that Johnny mentioned something in an earlier thread regarding academics that both the Leuer and Taylor families may have been attempting to stir up trouble with the Gophers and they have attempted to do the same in the past. I have no idea why Johnny stated that or if that means Jon, Jordan or their families are good people or not. Just find it somewhat curious, which may or may not support BigGopherFan's original statement regarding Leuer.

I definately should not have written what I did in that case MRJ. It didn't come off the way I meant it too and it wasn't very well thought out on my part. With so many Minnesota kids on the Wisconsin team and all of them having very close friends who play both basketball and football at Minnesota, it's easy for information like Royce's adventures and Nolen's academics to get passed along to friends on the other team and then those people tell a few people and all of a sudden it gets written online. From what I know of the two families, they are good people and both actually we're big Gopher fans until they dealt with Dan Monson and there kids went to play at a rival. Hard to comment on who is a "good" kid since none of us are around these kids outside of the basketball court to really know them. Jon has always been a very nice, shy kid when I've been around him and I have never heard anything bad about him but people said the same thing about Diloretto so who realy knows. I would think we all have our bad moments so it's impossible to know if somebody just had one bad interaction with him.

As for his injury, not sure why it took so long for the wisonsin. media to get ahold of it. Maybe the Packer game took most of the focus and nobody was really looking. They knew it was in bad shape right away and he was in alot of pain after. The hope is that after they put some screws in it and give him some time off, that he may be able to come back sooner than expected wearing some kind of cast.

I was really impressed with Bruesewitz last game and would expect him to get more minutes in Leuer's absence.

Although I like to see all Minny kids doing well...preferably in M&G...JL was having a great year and a pleasure to follow on BTN.

Jon...best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Never like to see a player get hurt and this kid plays hard. Even if he's a Minnesotan Badger I hope to see him get well soon.

Very nice post and run comment from a narrow minded person. I have met Jon and his dad. I have no idea what you are talking about. If Jon is not a good person, then how about your guys?

You guys should be proud that Jon comes from Minnesota.

Internet message boards bring out the scum bags don't they:eek:

YES.

You will note the vast majority of comments have been supportive and positive.

Dude broke his wrist not his neck. Hope he gets better but I certainly don't feel bad for Wisconsin. I don't care if they're at full strength or not as long as we beat them. I doubt many Badger fans are crying tears about Mbakwe being (presumably) falsely accused of a serious crime
